I am new to the idea of LAP BAND. I am still researching, but I do have an appointment with a doctor next Monday. I was researching a few months before my ortho doctor told me that I should consider having WLS. I just don't know if it is going to be ok because of my age. I am no spring chicken anymore.:) I have learned a lot lately, but still have a lot of questions for the DOC Monday. My husband is very supportive, don't know about the kids, I have mentioned it to them but no response.:) I will appreciate all the info I can get from this forum.

Hey and Welcome, Does your title tell me you may be from down South?

Don't even think you are to old. I am 62 and am 13 days out today and doing wonderful Have dropped 15 lbs. so far. Could not have ask for things to have gone any better. I researched about four months and then attended a seminar and that made the decision for me. Would do it again in a heart beat. Let me know if you need any more questions answered. My hubby was behind me all the way also so that is great.:)

I was born and raised in the DEEEP South! We call it LA. That stands for Lower Alabama. I'm sure I will have more questions later. It is great to have a fantastic husband isn't it?:clap2:

Hey Bayougirl,

I'm from Idaho and I am 9 days post op. Before I saw my sergeon, I ran across a thread on this site about questions to ask when considering getting a lap band.

If you go to General Lap Band Discussion it is a thread entitled " Some Questions to ask about LAPBAND" Or you can just do a search for that title.

I hope this helps.

Good luck.

I was banded on the 17th april, I have joined a support group here in Idaho and I can tell you age is not a factor here. What is it that you want to do and then go for it.....................................

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
