FLUID POCKET NEAR PORT

Recommended Posts

Had my first fill yesterday and to my surprise when the surgeon went to access my port he actually aspirated roughly 7 cc of Fluid from the port site....(my poor husband said he internally freaked out)!

I know this is not uncommon after surgery, especially when no drains are used, occasionally the body just doesn't reabsorb all the drainage. All is well, no fever; the site has no s/s of infection.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

Yes I have not in the port area but the incision right under that had that issue. For me it was closed up and pretty well healed causing an infection to brew up in that pocket. I caught it right away because the area was tender and hot to the touch. I covered it with triple antibiotic cream and it burst and started to drain. It took a few days for it to clear but nothing else had to be done to it. The wound closed up and everything was good.

Keep an eye on the area and how you are feeling and how the area around the port. If it starts to feel warm or hot give the Doc a call.

Thank you for responding!

This pocket was also under the incision (port site) but NO: tenderness, redness, swelling, warmth or drainage. I have been afebrile and the incision itself looks unremarkable: clean edges, well approximated, scab gone, only faint bruising remains. The drainage was Not purulent, so I was relieved immediately!

I have not read any posts regarding this issue, so just thought I would reach out & ask.

Surgery was just 3 weeks ago, so this was just a minor shocker (more for hubby) lol, but I will continue to closely monitor.

There was this girl once that was really worried about getting her first fill and we kept encouraging her over and over telling her it wouldn't be a big deal. After the fill she came into the room and told us we wouldn't believe what happened to her. She's super scared of needles and when the doctor went to put the needle in a big ole squirt of blood came out and she nearly passed out. Turns out she had a hematoma and the doc punctured it. It wasn't a big deal but it scared the crap out of her. Lol. She laughed about it later but at the time it was quite frightening for her. Just thought you'd like to hear another fill story!

Hey, I could tell he was "digging" around a little and kept thinking to myself ....REALLY, he can't find it... then... Oh crap, my port has flipped or something! I started to get flushed and felt like i was going to pass out, that's when I picked up my head and immediately knew what was happening when I saw the syringe.

food for thought: whomever thinks getting the LB is the easy was out is delusional, because this is far from it! It has only been 3 wks and I have worked really hard to measure food, log all my food into a spreadsheet diary, exercise daily, follow-up apts, post-op fill diet, considering all food choices... this is NOT easy; it takes dedication!!

Yes, I had Fluid drained from my port area in April but it was not from the 1cc band. It was fluid that had collected.i freaked out myself, but everything is fine now.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
