BAD PB...feeling really tight...any suggestions???

Recommended Posts

I had the worst PB ever this morning. Lasted about 2 hours and resulted in 3 vomits. I am so tight that Water is having a problem going down. I can get it down, but very slowly.

I emailed my doc to see what he said, but any advise from you guys would be appreciated. I know I need to do liquids today and maybe try mushies tomorrow. But, how long can this be a problem? Should I take ibuprofen? (anti inflamatory?)

I've had several PBs where the irritation just caused me to swell shut. I ended up spitting into a cup for several hours because the pain was so bad. If you can still get down Water, you sound manageable to me. I would sip on hot hot hot liquids all day to loosen up. Maybe stick to Soups.

I'm going to get myself in trouble again if I tell you to take advil. The rules police are sure to show up soon and tell you why you shouldn't be taking it. For me, taking advil for a headache is fine, but if I'm swollen that tight, a pill isn't going to go down unless it's liquid, so it might just be impractical for you to try to take any kind of pill.

So, to sum up, drink hot liquids, and be ready to have someone scare the pants off of you about taking advil. :) Hope you feel better soon.

I basically second what StrawartS says. On occassion I do take NSAIDS for issues, like headaches, or when I took Aleve for the tendonitis in my wrist, but it is recommended that you not take that stuff, because it can be hard on your stomach.

Feel better!

Yup, hot liquids, and I'd stay on liquids tomorrow too. You have to get in to see your doc if it doesn't improve by then..............sorry that happened to you. Hang in there.

Oh I've been there and did that, diddo to setting on the couch with a cup for several hours before. I had this problem before I thought I was going to die after about a week because I was so irritated that I couldn't keep anything down. I called my doctor because I thought i was going to have to go to the ER. He told me to do warm liquids not hot because that can irritate it further. I definately wouldn't do anything but liquids for a few days if your feeling that bad. My doc advised me to do liquids for a week after my bad experience but I was feeling better within about 2-3 days. Feel better!

Not really. I tried some mushies yesterday. It took an hour to eat 1/2 cup of pureed chicken salad. Today I'm just doing liquid again to try to get it to go down. If it doesn't get better I'm going to get an unfil Monday. Thanks for asking. Any more suggestions would be appreciated.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
