Traveling = Tight

Recommended Posts

Hey all - I've had the band for about 5 years now. Does anyone have trouble when they travel? I've been traveling a lot for work lately and everytime I get SO tight where I can't eat at all. Anyone else have this problem? Normally I can eat just fine, barely ever PB.

I do. It doesn't matter the mode of travel either. I think it is just the stress of it all.

My surgeon said to just drink when traveling by air and it will cause your band to get tight. Are you talking about air travel by chance?

Yeah, by flight.. I've been drinking tons of Water and it doesn't help :(

Well only drink on the plane don't try eating, that's what I was told. Has to do with air pressure on the band.

Went to Red Lodge Montana July 25th-29th and had the same problem. Went out for Bfast with some friends at the local diner and got stuck in 2 bites. No one knew about my surgery so it was rather embarrassing to just sit there with this huge omelet I'd never eat. It continued throughout out stay but mostly mornings and noon. Nights were OK but I had to really eat small and chew a lot.

Yeah I've been in DC since Sunday (came from Denver) and I've had this issues since I got here. Late night snacking works but morning and lunch I can only have a few bites. And I'm in the same boat, I'm at a conference where food is catered and I've got this huge plate in front of me and others at conference do not know about band so I just keep telling them my stomach has been uneasy with travel. :-/

I just spent the week at Yellowstone, which is about a 3-4 K altitude increase from where I normally live. I found out the first day that things were going to be different, it was like I had just gotten a fill. My LB nurse had warned me to expect it, as many of her patients had reported the same reaction to altitude.

Happens to me all the time.

First day that I've been able to eat "normal" since I've been here. Think my body just needed to adjust to the difference.

This has been interesting to read. I have never considered difficulty from: flying the friendly skies! We have a trip planned in the spring for Rome and I will have to make the necessary accommodations.

Question for those banded travelers!!!! I'm getting my first fill August 20..(surgery date was July 25). I am going to be flying 6 days after my fill and will be at a conference for three days. It makes perfect sense that altitude can cause tightness..should I postpone my fill till I get back in case I have any issues? I plan on calling doc office in the morning but would appreciate your feedback!! Thanks!!

I had to fly cross country about a month after I was banded. I ate part of a baked potato while waiting for my flight. Suddenly I started getting very loud gas bursts. Lucky for me the gift shop was open so I bought a box of Gas-X. From then on I always travel with a box of them in my purse.

Hi!!

I've been banded 4 years and I experience this as well. Something else to consider is are the places you are traveling hotter than what you are used to ? liquids expand with heat and make your bad essentially tighter! I actually go to my surgeon and he takes some Fluid out before I go on trips to Florida for instance.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

      Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

        Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
