ms kat 25 Posted August 6, 2013 Banded aug 5th! Home and resting somewhat comfortable. Well as comfortable as I can. Gas and shoulder pain seems manageable for day 2 or would this be day 1 if I was banded yesterday? 1 Jenny Thom reacted to this
hawtie 4 Posted August 6, 2013 I was banded yesterday too! My gas pains are not to bad. For me it's the coughing that really hurts! 1 Jenny Thom reacted to this

ms kat 25 Posted August 6, 2013 I am coughing also, getting phlem up too. I didn't know that was going to happen. I also keep my heating pad on my belly and another on my shoulders. I am having a hard time getting fluids down. Just feel like its forced and there is no room. How about you?

I started the first week of April with my initial consult. I am a low BMI'er so I was accepted due to co-morbidies such as sleep apnea and high blood pressure. 2 ExcitedMommy0309 and Jenny Thom reacted to this

hawtie 4 Posted August 7, 2013 I'm able to get my fluids down but only small sips at a time using a straw helps me. After about a half cup of broth I feel full. 1 ExcitedMommy0309 reacted to this
ms kat 25 Posted August 7, 2013 Thanks! I was so nervous about the after effects too! I was driving myself into a state of nerves, now that its said and done, it really isn't anything you can't handle. Just keep in the back of my mind that it is TEMPORARY and it will get better every day! Good luck you will do great!
Blayden2029 15 Posted August 7, 2013 I'm able to get my fluids down but only small sips at a time using a straw helps me. After about a half cup of broth I feel full. Not sure what other Drs say but mine said no Straws- again remember each Dr is different and go with what yours says --But his reasoning is that you swallow too much air with a straw and take a bigger amount of Fluid in with a straw..he said small, small sips.... if it works for you great but just be cautious if you see a "problem" in the future it may be the straw
deh1031 5 Posted August 7, 2013 My nutritionist said that the no straw thing is for bypass patients not band patients.
3mommy 52 Posted August 7, 2013 I'm not allowed straws either. I can handle fluids but small sips at a time. I used to be able to down a bottle of Water or drink a 64oz water bottles in 4.5 hours. Now a bottle of water takes me forever to finish. I am handing food well still on mushies but I haven't had a problem with anything. I just can't eat a lot. Tomorrow i will be 7 days post op 1 ExcitedMommy0309 reacted to this
aug13hereIcome 9 Posted August 7, 2013 This may be a stupid question.but why the shoulder pain?! Ive read on a few posts about this and maybe I'm missing something but i can't figure out the reasoning behind it
dawalsh 919 Posted August 7, 2013 My nutritionist said that the no straw thing is for bypass patients not band patients. I'm inclined to agree with your nutritionist. I've been banded since December. I was an overnight patient. I was given straws to take my Clear liquids with. Taking gulps would have been hard on my swollen stomach. My doctor is not against Carbonation either but in very small amounts. I guess drinking too much fizzy drinks could dialate the pouch.
