What a painful experience that was - the PA couldn't seem to get my port in the right position, he poked me and was pushing on me until eventually he had to call someone else in! Finally after 20 minutes of probing they got it - 2 cc's put in. Hope that's all I need (have 4.4 total) so I don't have to go through that again.

I asked him about drinking soda, my most difficult thing to give up, and he said once in a while is ok. I'm ok with that!

Excited to see what a difference this 2cc will make ;)

I find it funny that they have to poke and push so much to find the port when I can feel my port just fine. Maybe it's different when you're lying down?

They should just put a tattoo in that spot when they do the surgery so that they know just where to put the needle for fills and withdrawls. Just a little beauty mark so they can find the port site without all the poking and pushing :)

I can take sips of pop (can't call it soda...lol) here and there when I want to freshen my mouth up but I never buy myself any pop anymore.

Sorry you had a negative experience, only my surgeon does my fill and first shoots me with anesthetic and then the fill.

Keep it up!

Sounds like an inexperienced PA. My hubby had the same issue with a PA but when the doc came in he was able to get it in one shot. I'm a RN and can't tell you how the confidence and experience of your nurse/doc etc makes such a huge difference. It is not insensible to request future fills to not be done by that particular PA due to your experience.

As for someone's tattoo comment, sounds great, but watch out...your port will migrate when you lose weight. Not that your port floats to a different position as it is sutured in, rather the abdominal wall it's suture to moves inward. My port was under the nipple line when I first got banded but it is not under my sternum.

Also, lying down makes palpating the port easier than standing up.

Only on the first fill they took out all the primer Fluid and then put that back plus a fill and the second fill they just added more Fluid.< /p>

Good point on the tattoo. I can understand everything shifting after weight loss might have to rethink that idea :)

I was trying to joke about the situation with the PA, I said"I don't know who's more embarrassed - you for not being able to find it or me having a handsome PA poke at my fat." He got a chuckle. When I'm nervous I make jokes, can't help it lol.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
