So the nutritionalist wants me to start the pre op diet Aug 9 and go for my last Ins required weigh in Aug 19. Has anyone else had to do the pre op diet so early? I was told I would have a 3wk pre op diet and I'm scheduled for banding Sept 27 so it's going to be a really long pre op diet I guess :/

I am thinking of starting the diet tomorrow what's a couple days early going to hurt right?

Wow that is long! I did not have to change by diet just the day before surgery. However I was eating a very healthy diet and workout program. I was told that she wish more people did so much prior to surgery it would make her job easier! My guess they are just trying to drop a few more pounds maybe?. just a guess on my part however. Blessings to you as you move forward in your journey!

i had a all liquid pre op for 2 1/2 weeks til surgery and then 2 weeks after.. its hard but it is doable... (my starting BMI was 62)...after the first 4/5 days, it was not that bad...i learned very quick what head hunger was vs being truly hungry......and believe it or not, you won't starve to death (trust me i thunk that more then once during that time).....just do the best you can.....all you can do..(it is to prepare your liver for surgery and so it is a must)..

I'm on day four of my pre-op diet, and it is not bad at all. Actually I'm finding that I am less hungry every day, I can't believe that I'm not hungry!!!! I'm having a hard time getting down enough Protein, the 60-70 grams a day. I'm stopping by the health food today to get some unflavored protein to put into things to bulk up the protein. I've actually lost eight pounds. I am shocked at loosing weight AND not feeling hungry, that is not something I'm used to. My doctor only required me to be on the pre-op diet 10 days.

I did preop diet 2 weeks. Mine consisted of liquid Protein Drinks 4 x per day for 3 days then I could substitute one Protein Drink with a garden fresh salad daily starting day 4. I wasnt hungy at all. I can only find my Protein drinks at Sams and they are Premier Protein with 30g protein 1gm sugar and 160 calories. They come in choc and vanilla. I was taking in less than 700 calories a day and lost about 12 or 13 lbs preop. I was told its to get the fat out of the liver to reduce risk of damaging the liver during surgery. The weight loss feels good though.

SandyM I am also using the Premier Protein drinks! I have decided that today will be day one. I am off today and its harder to be good when I'm off and cooking for my kids it will be a good challenge for me! Weighed myself this am (355.6lb) so I can track and watch the weight fall off! That's a big motivator for me! I know with everyone support I can do this!

Thank you everyone!

I'm going this weekend to Sam's to check out the premier shakes. I'm loving the Muscle Milk Vanilla favored, it is just like a creamy milkshake!!! My doctor said today that I can make my own Soups as long as they are blended down to liquid, made a roasted cauliflower Soup tonight that was amazing, even in a completely liquid form. Went in for my pre-op appt today with the doctor and all of the pre-op testing went well and I'm reading to go on the 12th. We have to be at the hospital by 7 AM and surgery is scheduled for 9 AM. He said, without complications, of which he was doubtful, I should be home by suppertime. My husband is home on leave and has to return on the 14th, so I'm going to enjoy every moment of him being home and me starting on this amazing journey.

:D

I'm glad your husband is home and can be there for the surgery! How long is your pre op diet?

I'm doing good even took the kids thru a drive thru and drank my hake while they had the most tummy smelling hamburgers lol I am ending my night with 850cal total for the day! I do have a headache, but I always have some type of headache due to having pseudotumor cerebri and its down to the last few days of the kids being home so any one of those three could be the culprit!

Tomorrow will be another test as work will be providing cake for a coworkers birthday :( ill just have to say no!

Question since you have seen your dr. Can you have iced coffee on the liquid diet? I'm sure it's a no but a girl has to ask ;) lol

I know you didn't ask me this question, but I will say I never gave up my coffee. If you use sugar you'll prob want to sub sweetener

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
