What's the deal with chicken?

Recommended Posts

I find I do better with chicken and beef than I do with soft foods or Pasta. For me, it's because I'm really carefuly with chicken and beef -- I chew and chew and chew. But with mashed potatoes or Peanut Butter or even pasta or cheese, I assume it's soft and it's going to go down easy, so I get lazy and don't chew enough. So for me, the softer something is the more likely it is to get stuck.

I'm okay with chicken as long as it doesn't have much (if any) breading. I can't handle breading after 2-3 bites. It also has to be moist.

I have found if you marinate chicken breasts in the fridge overnight or during the day when you are at work they grill very well and stay moist enough to go down. I can't handle dry chicken, I have to have a sauce.

I don't eat Pasta very often, but when I do I usually don't have a problem with it, as long as there is plenty of sauce on it to help it go down.

I think I have figured it out.... I FINALLY worked out today before dinner. I always have the pain the first few bites. Not a single pain tonight. Do you think it is because i worked out first? I actually got to eat a whole meal tonite! Man was it good. Grilled chicken with soy sauce, steamed mixed veggies and croissant. Yum!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
