Am I crazy?

Ok, you don't have to answer that, LOL. Anyway, I had my lap banding on 5/10/13 and have lost 34 to 35 lbs. I'm bouncing that last lbs. My surgeon doesnt want to fill me. I have absolutely nothing in my band. They removed what little was in at time of surgery on day 3 or 4 due to nausea and I'm told by surgeon probably stomach swelling. Since then, every time I visit, 3 times total, he says he doesnt want to do a fill. I have lost the last 15 lbs by dieting regularly and diligently. I don't recognize saity and usually quit because I know I should. I go to the gym daily and really feel like I should see some results. In the last month, I've lost 2.5 lbs and like I said, that was all me, I'm not feeling the band at all. So, I've called the surgeons office and this time when I go in, I'm going to see my surgeons wife who is the other lap band surgeon. Guess I'm getting a second opinion of sorts. My deal is, my md visits are part of my insurance for the 1st year. My fills will be covered. After the 1st year, I have to pay and noone is sure how much whether it will be a simple copay or full md visit until I meet my deductable. So, I'd like to get this stablized before my visits run out. What do you guys think? Am I over concerned or what?

I don't expect the weight to roll off, I just want to feel like I wasnt sold part of a tool. I went into to this to lose weight and thats what Id like to do.

You're kidding me right? WHY doesn't he want to fill you if you're not feeling the band's help yet? Getting a band and not filling so that it assists you in hunger management it is like buying a bicycle and not pumping the tyres up.

The only thing I can think of is that he sees you losing and thinks that it means your band is working. You need to disabuse him of that notion and explain that you're struggling with hunger and need help with some fills. Especially seeing as you're going to have to pay for fills soon.

I lost most of my weight before getting to the green zone but getting there meant that weight loss became easy. That's what both you and your doctor should be working towards.

Seriously..I never understood why some doctors are so stingy with the fills. I'm glad you're getting another opinion though!

Thanks guys, I was hoping it wasnt just me. I had an appt with him next week but I canceled it and rescheduled to see her week after, thats the soonest I could get in. I hope shes a little more sympathetic. I agree that he sees weight loss, but I tried to explain to him that I'm working really hard for that weight loss and I have the band why not use it. Hopefully she'll be more open to it.

I think you should demand (but in a nice way) that you get a fill. This is YOUR health and wellness not his. Also, if you look at the yellow\green\red chart you are clearly in the yellow and that means you NEED a fill not just want one. Good luck.

For me, the whole reason why this band works is I don't have to feel deprived. Diets don't work for me because of the discomfort of being hungry all the time. I agree, a velvet demand is in order.tmf

I had nothing in my band at the surgery. I saw the doctor Friday and had no fill. I have had 3 fills for a total of under 2cc's. he said I am fine as is. I just need to exercise more. Every doctor is different. Good luck

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
