Funny how things change

Recommended Posts

Alright prior to me getting banded my middle daughter who is 38 was very much against it, was even sending me text messages right up to being taken into pre-op trying to change my mind. At that time I just needed support, not discouragement, Well she finely said she was glad I had not chosen to mutilate my body by having bypass or a sleeve done her words not mine.. My phone no longer worked when I got into pre-op put an end to that! Well now she tells me that although she did not support me getting this done she would support her husband having it done! Well I have to agree there, I would totally support him having it done. He is 42 around 450 has type 2 diabetic, high blood pressure, and very bad sleep apnea and he had a heart attack a few months back. At first hew was going to watch what he ate, but now it's back to the old bad habits. She finely talked to him about it, his doctor wanted him to have a bypass and he said no. But he says no to the band as well. Oh how I wish he could see that this could improve and prolong his life. What do you say to someone when you just want them to be able to see their little girl grow up?

That's hard. I would encourage them to join the site and read posts in the Post Surgery and Lap Band success columns. You'd think that having a heart attack would be enough of a "pull-up buddy", but some people have to learn the hard way. I would tell my daughter to make sure the life insurance was adequate to care for her and their children, because her husband is a ticking time bomb right now. Maybe the shock will be enough for them to make some hard choices.

You'd think that your success would be enough of a motivator. Sad situation.

You can't make him do something he does not want to do. Work your life and your band and maybe he will see how much success you are having. Push and he will pull away.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
