Port Incision- Question (Answer ASAP, Please)

Recommended Posts

Last night, the dermabond came off of my incision. I had my surgery on July 26th (about 10 days ago). Can someone tell me if this looks like something I need to go get checked? It isn't bleeding or oozing. It is closed...just the top portion of skin isn't fully closed. Or do you think it will heal on its own.

I am worried that it is not healing right.

Thank you!!

if you are concerned/worried, please always refer to your doctor.., they are the only ones you should ask about these things...let us know what they say

I already called the doctor this morning...they said if I am not running a fever, have chills, it isn't oozing, or warm to the touch, I should be fine. I don't have any of those symptoms.

I am just a worry wart...and wanted to get other peoples' opinions on what to do.

No, that looks normal to me. My strips stayed on a bit longer than yours, but there's nothing wrong with yours. Mederma will take care of that easy - just start using it at your 6 week mark. Right now, my port incision is healed completely, but it has created a dent in my tummy. I know that will change as I continue to lose, so just keep that in mind as it continues to change.

Please do not use mederma or anything else in that area. Just keep it clean with soap and Water. The incision looks good and the area that is open will heal. Try to keep the area clean and if it rubs against your clothing just put a simple gauze pad over it with nothing under it.

If the skin around the incision site gets red or feels hot then you need to get to the Dr. because you are brewing a possible infection.

The wound is still open so mederma, or any other kind of cream could result in getting bacteria into the wound so steer clear of those things until the wound is fully closed and healed.

Trust me this is coming from experience with wound and incision infection.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
