I'm scheduled for surgery 8/15 and want to be prepared. I never take any medication, except for the occasional anti-biotic when I get sick (and pain meds after I had children). Is it true that you cannot take any more pills while banded? If so, do you leave your surgery with a prescription for liquid painkillers, liquid/chewable stool softeners, etc. I could not find liquid vitamins, so I bought the Gummy kind. Is this acceptable? Or would that get "stuck"? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hey there! You can still take pills. Your just swallowing one at a time. I was sent home with liquid pain medicine. I mean if you're on routine medicine like I am then of course I have to take it. They just don't want u to take it all at once. So one pill at a time is just fine. I too got the gummie Vitamins I also got the chewable multi Vitamin. I think they are better just because I'm not fond of swallowing pills one at a time now. But as long as you do one pill at a time you're good.

My surgeon says not pill larger than a pencil eraser. So the one med I do take is large so I went to a liquid. I am taking a liquid Vitamin right now, but I was told chews work too, I will switch to gummy vitamins at the 4 week point. Liquid .itamins are rather costly.

If you have to take pills that are larger than a pencil eraser, there are pill cutters or pill crushers available at drug stores to assist with swallowing larger pills.

Regarding the cutting of pills, you need to check with your doctor or pharmacy first. Some pills are extended release, and cannot be cut. If you do, you will absorb too much medication into your system all at once. It can be dangerous.

Just a word of caution about Gummy vitamins.... They are seriously lacking in minerals, as well as minimal doses of major Vitamins. They are weak in comparison to a chewable Multivitamin mineral supplement. Capsules are easy to get down (one at a time), and a packed full of a lot more of what your body needs. I started having issues, and threw my gummies in the trash. For now, I switched to Celebrate Multivitamin chewable, and seem to be doing fine.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
