I have no idea what Tripe is, but is it allowed on your post op diet? It's definitely not a liquid or mushy food. According to your profile, it's only been a little over 2 weeks since your surgery.

Tripe is an animals stomach lining

I had a cup of menudo the other day just to take the craving away! It went down fine. I just took small bites and chewed the hell out of it. :)

I would put it through the blender on puree.... Tastes the same and no worries.

Probably not a good idea without pureeing it. It doesn't chew down into mush, no matter how much you chew it. Would not be a fun food to get stuck!

I only eat my mother's tripe. When I told her this past June that I was getting banded, I knew right then that I would never again have her tripe. I knew it because tripe is not something that could be chewed completely. I would not even dare try it! Good luck to you.

No :( it's not allowed, but my only other options were vegetable rice, potatoes, spare ribs (yumm) and chicken cutlet.

The tripe was surprisingly SOFT and I was able to chew it to a mush. I only had 3/4 cup. Just enough to hold me out until we came back to civilization and I could get something else. My whole day was planned out, I was supposed to stay home all day and cook my chicken Soup for the week while doing laundry and go food shopping but hubby had made plans in his HEAD that I only found out about this morning.... That's why I wasn't prepared. But it won't happen again.

What's menudo? As far as I know, it's a boy band from the 80's ;)

Or "change" in your pocket. LoL

It's a Mexican Soup that is usually tripe and hominy with spices.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
