I had my band placed on Monday, 7/29, and today (8/2) is the first day I have gotten out and about. The past few days have been tough, but manageable. I haven't felt hungry until today so i am sticking to my liquid diet (popsicles, broth, Water, unsweet tea) I have tried to take a few sips of a Protein Shake, but could only get a few sips down before I was full. Today I feel like I could drink my weight in water and eat a cow. Is that normal? I have my first fill/post-op appt on 8/26, but I'm such a worry wort that I know I won't be able to wait until then to see what I am feeling is normal. I have this fear that I have overdone myself and my band has slipped and/or will fail... Any help/advice will be great appreciated.

I think you're fine! Congrats on being banded!! Stick with what your doctors say! I think before your first fill is the hardest! You still have a pretty normal appetite just watch what you eat and how quickly! Chew, chew, chew!

Fluids flow right through a wide open band and into the lower stomach. No need to worry about anything at this point.

I'm doing well in fact too good..I was also worried about calorie intake when I should be more focused on the Protein intake and the post op diet week 1. It's been a challenge getting over the initial shock of it all but I'm looking forward to mushies..

Trust me, I was nervous until they took me into the OR. You'll do fine, this forum has really helped with any questions I have add. I checked the Pre-Op forums daily for updates and read other people's stories to get an idea of what I should expect. Keep me updated on your progress and I'd love to share my stories throughout the upcoming weeks as well.

Are you happy overall that you've done it? What did you weigh in your day of surgery?

I'm currently 237lbs on my own scale. I'm 5'4" and 33 this November. This is my birthday gift to myself.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
