Carol.mcpherson 25 Posted August 2, 2013 8 days post op and fortunately still not hungry...bad part? I can barely stand the idea of eating anything! I know I have to get my Protein in but literally get nauseatingly sick to my stomach with first drink! I hate the taste and am not a huge fan of sweets to begin with! I have the Unjury unflavored protein mix but boy do they lie about being unflavored!! Any suggestions out there? Maybe I should stick to cottage cheese and Soup? mrsto 2,925 Posted August 2, 2013 Have you tried putting the unflavored Protein Powder in something like V-8 juice? Post-op, I was so sick of the sweet Protein Shakes, I thought I would puke if I took a sip of one more So I started putting the Protein in V-8 juice, and it saved me. Is cottage cheese allowed on the post-op diet phase you're on? It's considered soft/mushy food. It you are not there yet, call your doctor to discuss options. I totally get ya on the sweet Protein Drinks. Even now, more than 4 months post-op, it's rare that I can drink a whole one. They still disgust me, so I work to get all my Protein grams in with food.< /p> Good luck. This is the most difficult part of the journey, but once you're past it, things get a lot better. 1 ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this
GoingforGoal 1,734 Posted August 2, 2013 Have you only tried unjury shakes? If so, time to experiment. Muscle Milk or MM Lite as well as Premier Protein are both good in chocolate. I personally cannot do Unjury and can only drink chocolate shakes at that. Premier Protein is 160 cal and a whopping 30g Protein in 325ml. This will not only fill you right up, but give you all the protein you need in one sitting. I also was not hungry for 2 weeks postop but it is essential to do whatever it takes to get that protein in. Protein is the key to expedite healing AND burning fat Are you in the mushy stage? If so, you can try to eat your protein but it's usually hard to get that much protein in off of mushies and so close after surgery (hence the shake supplements). The problem is that people start fixating on the protein # and forego the calorie #. This is also where shakes help us out. Very few foods out there (especially in mushie stage) can give you 30g protein under 200 cals. Try to manage both #s as best you can to optimize health and wl. 1 ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this
Carol.mcpherson 25 Posted August 2, 2013 Fortunately blended cottage cheese is allowed for me.. I did have the Premier Protein shakes during preop and I guess I need to get some more..it's just that sweet thing again!! Thanks for the feedback!
Soxking 25 Posted August 2, 2013 Have you tried Isopure Zero Carb? 40g of Protein in a 20 oz. bottle. I mix half and half with Water on ice and it is a pretty light and refreshing drink. You can get it at GNC. Quite a few different flavors - at this point I favor the Green Apple Melon, but the Blue Raspberry isn't bad either. 1 Carol.mcpherson reacted to this
mrsto 2,925 Posted August 2, 2013 I've tried numerous Protein powders/shakes, and the only one I can tolerate on a regular basis, is the Premier chocolate ready made shakes. I keep several in the fridge at all times. If I'm having a low Protein food day, I'll drink 1/2 of one; maybe a whole one. Still don't love them, but it's the only one that doesn't gross me out. Just this week, I picked up some egg white protein powder - chocolate. I blended it with 1 cup of frozen raspberries, 1/2 small banana, and 8oz of unsweetened almond milk. It was pretty good! 1 ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this
sp70 193 Posted August 2, 2013 New Whey is a Liquid Protein that comes in a "shot size" type bottle. It has 42 gm Protein per 4 oz. I mix half of it with 12-16 oz of Water and that gives you 21 gm of protein. They come in grape, watermelon and acai berry. They taste pretty good and aren't as heavy as the shakes.< /p>
Carol.mcpherson 25 Posted August 2, 2013 Thanks for all the great advice! I just moved on to phase two of diet today after post-op appt!! So excited to not have to rely on those shakes!! Chewing feels wonderful!! Disappointing news as far as first weigh ..only down 2 lbs since surgery on the 25th..8 total since pre-op diet started.
