How am I supposed to sleep

Recommended Posts

This is night one ads it's 3:53 am. How do I sleep? I'm in pain. My original pain medication has been discontinued. The substitute is not getting the job done. What an experience.

The worst of the pain usually only last 48hrs.

When you get tired enough, you will sleep.

Hang in there!

Congratulations fellow bandster!

Thanks. I eventually fell asleep and woke up to a little less pain. I still hurt.

For the first 1-2 nights after surgery I slept leaning back in a recliner, not all the way flat though because it was a pain getting up. After some of the pain subsided, I slept on my right side, with pillows under me and behind me to keep me still. I found the pillows helped relieve pressure on my port (on my left side) and helped me be comfortable. You just have to try what you can!

I got my band yesterday and had a pretty restless night last night also. I usually sleep on my side and stomach and that wasn't going to happen at all. On the plus side, I am all caught up with the latest informercials. After getting out of bed at 3:00, I went back at 5:30 and was able to doze off on my side with a pillow under my belly. Feeling much better today, except I'm feeling a bit of discomfort under the incision where I suppose the port is located...

Thanks everyone, I find that sitting up really helps. So i've been dozing off on the coach.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
