So I'm hearing lots of info that you are not going to want to drink carbonated beverages...I am not a big soda drinker and can live giving that up, but it will be a struggle not to have carbonated Water :( Anyone else have trouble with this?

I was a huge diet soda and all types of carbonation fan. Honestly the only time I miss not being able to drink it is if I have a hankering for an alcoholic drink that has Persecco in it or a carbonated mixer. All I drink now is water and coffee and never imagined I'd be OK with that, but I am.

I just got banded July 18 and the psychologist told me at the screening to go off coca cola a month before the surgery as he thought it would be hard for me as I LOVE coke and it used to be a stress reliever. I keep reminding myself that if I drink it then my band may dissolve and then all my Money and effort will be wasted.

My doctor told me that I can have carbonated beverages if I can tolerate the carbonation. Some people get a lot of stomach discomfort when they drink it. I gave up soda altogether as I was totally addicted, and wanted to break that habit. I have had sparkling Water on occasion, and had no problems with it.

Many doctors have different opinions on things, so you'll obviously want to follow what your doctor tells you! i just wanted to share my experience!

My dr. said NO carbonation.. There are plenty of things to drink that are not carbonated.. fortunately I was never a big soda drinker. I love Wyler's peach tea.. there is also something about Water with lemon that I love... I usually exceed my liquid intake every day... which is a good thing except it requires many trips to the bathroom..

I gave up all sodas years before even being banded...they're just not good - healthy for me, and when I stopped, I could tell the difference.

How come only fat people drink diet sodas???

After being banded I stopped all carbonation for about a year...I now will have a Pellegrino now and then, and now back to drinking a beer or 2, (or 3) now and then, but not everyday.

As a disclosure, I have to say I can do this because I understand my band very well, can listen to even the smallest of feedbacks, and can tell if I am drinking carbonated drinks properly...if I do it wrong my band will let me know.

Spoke with my Dr. about this...he tells all his patients NO carbonated drinks....but he also knows there are people, like myself, who have been at this long enough and "Get It"...so for me, he has no objection...

I'm not saying it is Ok, because I know the risks, and I know HOW it can happen.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
