We're any of you BANDits instructed to do lung exercises after surgery to prevent bronchitis & pneumonia? My sister had her sleeve and given a devise to take home and exercise her lungs but I wasn't given one with my band.

I was not given one. I've only read a few posts that talk about that machine after surgery. I'm thinking most don't get one after LB surgery.

And just to be clear, you had LapBand, correct?

Yes I go a lap band. The gave it to me in pre-op before I went in for surgery.

I was given one and told I need to get the indicator up to 2250. Still working on it. Now I'm over 1000

I was given one' date=' too.

It has nothing to do with the band, it's to prevent post surgical pneumonia. It's commonly given to patients any time they go under general anesthesia.[/quote']

LoL. I know it has nothing to do with the band and its to prevent pneumonia... I was just wondering who got one and who didn't.

I was given one, too.

It has nothing to do with the band, it's to prevent post surgical pneumonia. It's commonly given to patients any time they go under general anesthesia.

I had one as well and I was told it was to help clear the anesthesia from my system

I got LB and did NOT get an incentive spirometer. Don't worry, it is usually given to those who underwent cardio or lung surgery as there is a direct compromise to the lungs. However, it is also given to anyone who were under anesthesia for long periods of time. Because LB is such a short surgery (comparatively) it is not a requirement. IS's just may be standard protocol for some facilities opposed to medically warranted. However, with that being said, deep lung exercises are always a must. So just breathe normal with ocassional bouts of intentional deep breaths for 30 seconds every hour just to clear the anesthesia. Thanks for the share

Both my husband and I were given one after surgery. We were both banded in May. However my father had curated artery surgery and he was given one as well, so I'm thinking this might just be something they do for any extensive surgery where the patient is intubated and sedated to open up the lungs and clear them of Fluid after surgery.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
