Not sure how im supposed to feel!

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 7/9/13 and had a little bit of a rough couple weeks but seem fine now. My problem is that as time went on, I was adding stuff like scrambled eggs etc....soft stuff. Then, after having to go out of town due to a death in my wife's family, I found myself eating more and more of stuff I really shouldn't have been eating. Stuff like macaroni salads etc. I'm now, after only 3 weeks post surgery, eating normal foods...albeit much less and having to chew it til its like pudding.

Aside form this, my question is this, I can eat with no problems and am reminded if I forget and eat a little too fast. But I keep waiting to feel full but I don't! I know to stop because I can feel that it's sitting there and I can't fit anymore but even so, I'm still hungry. So I wait a few minutes til that awful feeling passes and eat a little more. So I guess I'm wondering is that because I've had no fills yet? Will there come a time where I will get that feeling of being full or will it always be this way? Any insight is appreciated.

Joe

Follow your doctor's orders. You have to let your stomach heal properly before eating real foods. Call your doctor in the morning and see what you should be doing.

I hope you did no damage to the band or area around it.

Good luck.

Dylan is right. Follow your doctors guidelines for your post surgery diet.

The band is sewn into the lining of your stomach and has no or very little saline in it. You won't feel any different than you did before surgery until you get a few fills(adjustments) and your band is adjusted properly. Until then this will be like a diet.

Thank you both so much. I know what I'm not supposed to be eating, even though I have sort of strayed, but I'm eating small portions and chewing the bejesus out of everything so I'm sure I haven't damaged anything though I'm sure I've not lost very much since my surgery. I'm due for my first fill on the 7th. I was just wondering if, after a fill or two, will I feel full after eating such small meals? Right now, though not over eating, I'm still hungry after eating. Thanks again for your help!!!

It took me 3 fills before I really felt some restriction and satiety.

I think this is more of a mental struggle with getting used to eating less. Forget about feeling full but focus on satisfied. You will feel better once you get a fill.

Good luck Joe! I can't wait to get my third fill on September 9th because I can eat anything.

I pretty much feel the same way. I don't really feel full but if I push it too far, I pay. I havent had a fill yet and my surgeon doesnt really want to do one because I'm losing at least 3 lbs a month. But, I do feel like I'm dieting to lose that and dont necessarily feel like I have the "tool". I guess I'll just watch and see how mine goes. Good luck and try eat calories that are nutritious and not empty calories at least. About 3 weeks out was where I started eating normal foods.

if you're searching for 'fullness' (as in I ate so much I feel like I'm gonna burst) then imo you're always going to struggle with the band. The band promises satiety. Or not being hungry again for at least 3 - 4 hours when you are in your green zone.

When in the green zone, I can't eat any more than a certain amount. My band will 'kick back'. But if I waited for a bit until the food passed though, then of course I could get more in. The point is NOT eating like that because that's called eating around your band and doing that continually will mean you will not lose.

You can eat a good amount of food, band or no band, and still feel hungry. This is why so many of us seek 'fullness'. We take it as a sign that we're no longer hungry, when it fact it means we've eaten WAY too much. It takes your head up to 30 mins to get the signals from your stomache that you're no longer hungry. So stop, wait 30 mins, and if you're still I-could-eat-my-own-leg-I'm-so-hungry then by all means eat more. But you'll be surprised, you probably won't be.

Before your green zone, you can eat that way and in a few hours be hungry again. In your green zone, it will be 3 - 4 hours before you're hungry again. That's when the band is working at it's optimum, and it may take some fills until then, but until then you can still learn about satiety vs fullness.

I just had my first fill of 3 CCs and I do feel more satisfied after just a couple scrambled eggs for lunch. Thanks for the insight. I guess I was confusing that over eating feel to being full. I'll be 1 month banded on the 9th and am down almost 12 LBS!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
