Recommended Posts

I was banded 7/26 and I'm still experiencing pain in between my shoulder blades, even when I breathe it hurts but it's almost unbearable when I sneeze cough or yawn. Is this normal.

The gas pain can be uncomfortable, try the Gas-X and walking. Try a heating pad or hot Water bottle to see if it helps move things along. If you are still in alot of pain don't hestitate to give your surgeon a call. Better safe then sorry is my motto.

Feel better!

It's the CO2 gas used during surgery that has irritated the nerves that run through your diaphragm, most likely. It's normal to have this pain shortly after surgery. However, IF it persists, definitely speak with your surgeon because it's not uncommon to have referred left shoulder pain with gastric banding. (And it can extend into the back, neck, jaw, and ear.) But, yes, it is normal to have this referred pain for a while after laparoscopic surgery. Feel better soon. You can try a hot water bottle under your rib cage to see if that helps at all. Walk as much as possible, but not to the point where you exhaust yourself. :) No five mile jaunts or anything.

I'm a little over a week past surgery and am just now getting over the gas pain! I SWORE that they dropped me during surgery because the gas pain hurt in my back so bad, Gas-X strips saved me! I hope you start feeling better soon! :D

I was banded the 23rd, and I have a huge pain tolerance, or so I thought until I experienced gas pain from this. But today is my 8th day and I'm down to a little gas pain left in my shoulders, it alternates from left to right. It sucks but it will ease...a little more each day. THANK GOODNESS! Cuz it sucks. Today is also the first day I've been able to take a HUGE breath without it hurting SOMEWHERE......I walked over half a mile at work today too....and 1/3 of a mile yesterday. One day at a time is what I keep telling myself. :)

Yeah it's fairly normal for some people. They inflate your abdominal cavity during the procedure and not all of the CO2 gets out sometimes. I was lucky and only had the pain in my left shoulder for about a day then it was gone. Move around a bit and try and relax! Lol. It'll be behind you soon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
