I read that after surgery you are only supposed to eat 3 times a day but I'm a diabetic and I need to eat every couple of hours how would that work?

Oh, please...don't let that scare you! You won't be hungry that often and what you will consume will be enough to keep your sugar levels in check. It's only been six weeks for me, but my levels were back to normal before I was done with the preop diet. What's more exciting is that I don't even need my medication anymore and it's only been 6 weeks! You might take a bit longer to get to that point, but trust me you will get there, too!

No worries...diabetes is about to be a thing of history for you!

I had a good friend that had barely controlled diabetes. She actually was off insulin before she had completed her pre-op diet! Even if you do have to eat more than three times a day, for whatever reason, you'll be fine with very tiny amounts more often.

Even though we are all different one of the main themes that you hear over and over is how people are able to stop taking medicine for diabetes.

It really did not take to long for me to get off of diabetes medicine.

Thanks for all of the insight. Me being a diabetic is one of the main reasons I decided to finally have the surgery. To see that many people are off meds so quickly is a testament to me making the right decision! Good luck to everyone!

I'm on Clear Liquids for 5 days and taking metformin. My glucose levels are still high. I'm waiting for the doc to call back. Has anyone noticed that there is hardly any weight loss, when ur glucose runs high?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
