after surgery what do you bring to work to keep full/satisfied?

Recommended Posts

My surgery is scheduled for Aug. 6th, I plan on going back to work on the 12th. I don't have access to a microwave at work, just a fridge and a Keruig coffee maker (i use for hot water). I am wondering what I will be able to bring to eat/drink during the liquid stage and the mushies stage to keep satisfied during the nine hours I'm there. I work in an office with one other person who is very particular about the office smelling like food when the clients come in. Can you all help with some ideas. I use to keep candy, crackers and chips in my drawer for snacking. I won't be doing that anymore. ;)

Since they have a fridge, you can bring ready made Protein Shakes, or whip some up at home and bring them. You can also heat up some Soup before you leave, and put it in a thermos. It's a little difficult without a microwave, but it might be a good idea to figure out what local restaurants have things you can eat during this time. Going out to lunch might be something you'll need to do. That, and keep some Protein Drinks for in between. V-8 juice with unflavored Protein Powder worked well for me, when I was tired of the sweet Protein shakes. During the mushy phase, you can pull together different things that don't require heating; cottage cheese, egg salad, etc.

Good luck with your upcoming surgery! Very exciting :)

I have a cooler bag that I keep at my desk. Everyday I bring sugar Jello and/fat free sugar free pudding to have IF I start feeling hungry. I bring a greek non fat yogurt to have at Breakfast. 8oz container of low fat cottage cheese or Soup for lunch. mid morning I drink a Protein Shake. With all that AND a few bottles of water...I NEVER get hungry. If you aren't sure if you are hungry and you've already had your meals.....drink another Water. Hope this helps Lisa

I am usually eating on the "go" because I am a teacher :)

For morning, I use the (fruit) Dole Shakers / smoothies and add unjury (UNflavored)

I keep Greek Yogurt in my mini-fridge at school *usually has 12 or more grams of Protein)

A LOT of cottage cheese (also good Protein source)

I agree with others as to taking Protein Shakes, but you could take baby food as well as yogurt, cottage cheese if I was thinking better I could come up with more I'm sure!! Good luck and blessings for a super successful surgery!

Yogurt, Protein Shakes, sf fat free pudding, sf fat free Jello.

I was allowed fish on my pureed stage (week 3) without actually pureeing it. I ate it literally everyday sometimes 2x a day for the whole week so i didnt have to puree anything.

Its kinda hard with no microwave.

You can make oatmeal with the hot Water from coffee-maker. I add unflavored Protein Powder to mine and a couple of drops or maple extract (in baking aisle at supermkt). I also make tuna salad, i put onion powder and celery salt in it for flavor without the solids. Plain low fat Grrey yogurt w/protein powder is awesome, especially if you can use a miniblender to add in fresh fruit. I like to add vanilla or strawberry flavored Protein powder. You probably won't have a big appetite after the sugery, so getting adequate protein + liquids will be important. Good luck with your surgery! Mine was June 27- I've lost 25 lbs so far, including pre-op.

Agree w/ the other posters. There is also this Unjury chicken Soup I bought and ate the week after surgery. It was a powder and you just add hot Water. Decent Protein and I would just sip it out of a coffee cup.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
