What do you do when you are craving low fat ice cream?

Recommended Posts

Right now I am craving low fat vanilla ice cream or frozen yogurt so bad. The sugar free popsicles are not helping with the craving at all. I know I could eat a half of a cup and walk away, but then again, scared to even try it or bring it in the house. Need help or suggestions, please.

I never crave low fat ice cream! I crave full-fat ice cream. And I eat it sometimes, too. This summer has been hot, probably have had it 2x/month or so? No big deal. Can't eat very much of it. Get kinda sick of the taste after 3/4 of the cone and throw it out...

Oh that was me Sunday night....I had 2 "low fat"..(thats what they call em ;) )custard concretes at my fav local custard stand listening to an awesome band...BUT....that was only the second time I've been there this year. Thats a big change for me! Everything in moderation :)

Buy the smallest portion you can. Probably a kiddie (baby) portion at the creamery. You'll be surprised how satiated you'll be even after the smallest portion. Ditch it as soon as you are content and feel obliged to eat all of it if you don't need to. Balancing our diets is an essential component to succeeding with the band. Let this be a + experience by learning that small servings on occassion will not hurt you and that you can control your weight through thoughtful decisions.

I substitute sugar free pudding with Protein Powder when I am in need of a sweet snack. I used to eat ice cream almost daily! I've had it twice since my surgery in May. It's hard to pass up home made ice cream. My daughter makes fun of me because when I splurge and have a little, I add Protein powder to it too!

I buy the little servings. There's a lot of brands, including Healthy Choice, that make little 2 cup containers. This way if you do binge and eat it all the damage is minimal.

I agree, try the single serving treats. They are okay and will stop your cravings! Best wishes, I, too, had the cravings, but am allergic, so finally took myself off of dairy approx 1 month ago. They are hard to stay off!!!!!

I have soft serve in a dish. I have been bad having them 3-5 times a week until last week. I need to learn control. One of my dietitians told me nothing is a no no.

I would love fried clams but have not tried them at all. I live in Boston. Seafood is our staple!

Good luck.

I eat ice cream all the time...and not low fat....with toppings and whipped creme...

For me, it is all things in moderation....in other words I still eat, and drink the things that I enjoy, I just don't make a pig of myself anymore.

Skinny people eat ice creme...why can't I?

The band will not allow me to over eat......

And I quit dieting a long time ago...I now eat considerably less food less frequently, and make the wisest food choices as possible.. And reward myself from time to time....Simple.

B 52......I love your attitude! I believe the same. If I ever decide to "cheat" I'll make sure it's all worth it.

Mis73 thanks for sharing the info on the Healthy Choice servings. You are my role model!

Eat it! There is nothing I will not eat - bbq, ice cream, popcorn, cheesecake... whatever. But these are rare and in small portions. You still have to live & enjoy life. IMO

if you want something, eat it

dont eat the entire container (and if you do so what)

and there are other healthier options to just about anything...living life and having a lap band is to not do without in my opinion

eating ice cream (in a reg size amount) won't make one gain a zillion pounds and just like eating a healthy meal won't make you lose a zillion pounds and its day in and day out eating/living..

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
