Pain in the left side - Port pain?

Recommended Posts

Hello! I'm 2 months 3 weeks out and this week I started to have some pain in my left side. I started to wear work pants yesterday (yes! a NSV for me :)) but I feel that my left side is kinda tight and it hurts like a cramp. It's not super painful, but I notice I slow down when I'm walking and it's mostly disconfort. It doesn't hurt at all if I'm sitting or laying down, is only when I'm walking. I wonder if my port is "moving" or something. I want to know if this is kind of normal. I have a fill next week and I'll mention this to the doctor.

Can you be more specific where on the left side.

Most patient's ports are on the right side, however, there are different locations to place a port.

Have you had a fill or can you palpate your port enough to know exactly where it was positioned.

Left side pain can be anything from your accessory muscles, to your stomach/pancreas/spleen..if lower kidneys and colon. Here's a quick anatomy pic

Thank you hazelsbliss for such a didactic response, love it! So here is a picture where my pain is located. I've had 2 fills already, and my port is slighly to my the left side (from my own left), above my belly button, it's super easy to locate. I'm glad that nothing really important is located where I feel discomfort. I'm wondering if the port moves a little in the position, or if you make any effort with those muscles, it can cause some discomfort.

Sounds like you have a nasty gas bubble to me, try walking and drinking more Water to get it to move. If it's still like that in a couple of days you should call your doctor.

Sounds more like your accessory or primary muscles during extension during walking. Basically your ab muscles are stretching as they should, however, now you have a port going for the ride. Remember, ports are sutured into the abdominal wall and doctors want to ensure these guys don't flip or migrate. It is possible your port was secured tightly and you are sensitive to the port/muscle interaction. Should settle in and stretch accordingly to accommodate your natural movement in time. However, consult w/ doc just to be on safe side. That's interesting that your port is down there..I know people who have had them in their lower right quadrant, but not left. Good to know

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
