Ibuprofen, Motrin, Tylenol?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone been told that banded people cannot take any Ibuprofen or other things like Tylenol? My Dr. has never mentioned this.. of course I havent asked.. I have been having some bursitis in my shoulders and wanted to take some motrin but seemed to recall people at my support group saying we couldn't take it.. I will call my Dr. before taking anything of course but wondered what everyone else thinks...

Thanks CG I will call them.. I have Tylenol on hand (Liquid).. I have been working out in the pool and doing laps I think it has irritated the bursitis..since I don't have to worry about TOM I'm happy...

I asked this specific question at my first fill appointment and was told all are okay as they will tell me to take Ibuprofen for inflammation and what not. I just had to seek out pills that were no larger that a low-dose baby aspirin.

I did find some small size Ibuprofen at good ol' Walmart.

If you go to your local pharmacist they also keep liquid Tylenol!

My doc said no ibuprofen, aleve, or aspirin and no caffeine. Said it will irritate your stomach.....Tylenol is OK.

I was told no aspirin or NSAIDS... which was harder to give up than anything else!! Tylenol only, which has always been kind of worthless to me.

yeah the various opinions of dr's are what boggles my mind.. but I trust my surgeon so I will ask him... I am perplexed by statement that it would irritate my band.. my band is not inside my stomach it's on the outside.. ??? and I asked about coffee at my first consultation appt... I told my Surgeon it would be a deal breaker if he took my coffee away.. Actually what I told him was that at my age there ain't alot left to enjoy.. lol I don't drink anymore, don't smoke anymore, sex is well it's okay..(getting old ) so not much left but my coffee.. he laughed and said it was okay...

From what I was told by my Doc the pill (for whatever reason) might get stopped at the opening of the band and as it sits and dissolves it can cause a sore which eventually can turn into an ulcer and go through to the band itself and cause erosion. It is a possibility so they would rather you not take them unless it becomes a medical necessity like me I have to take baby aspirin for my heart so my bariactric Doc said it was fine. That is why some Doc's say take the smaller pills if you have to. They go through the band easier, hopefully.

My doc too! No NSAIDS of any kind and I used to use aspirin to get rid of my joint pain. I can have caffeine however. I drink two cups of coffee a day and I have to have my coffee or I'm a grump in the morning lol!

I am seriously missing my coffee. I was told I can have it again after 4 weeks from the surgery. I am counting the days!! My nutritionist said its because of the acidity in caffeinated coffee and the risk of reflux if I remember correctly.

I only drink Decaf so I don't have to worry about caffeine. Lol

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
