small success and feeling good

Recommended Posts

I was not happy a while back because my weight lose stopped only after 2.5 weeks (after surgery). So I stopped weighing myself so much. Had trouble with amounts I was eating (ate to much), but now I think I'm getting the hang of how to do this! At least at this point! I have been on regular food about a week and here is how I see how to work with the band. I have not counted calories but try to eat good food, of course Protein first, then veggies, sometimes a carb, even a small desert . 3 meals a day and maybe a bit of yogurt (greek). THATS IT!

Weighted in this morning (after about 2 weeks) 2lb loss. and feeling good!

One question though; At dinner time I can not feel satisfied, I was thinking about drinking more water/crystal light. Doc told me no liquid .5 hour before and 1 hour after a meal and it's after the meal I think I need to drink more to feel satisfied? What to do?

TIA

Hi makikone. I have the same dilemma. I lost 20 pounds between the 5 day preop liquid diet and the week postop liquid diet. HoweveR, i have not lost a single pound since and that's three weeks! I work out 4-5 times for one hour at the gym,, and still no weight loss. Today, I decided two things:

1- stop weighing myself every day! I will weigh myself only once a week beginning today.

2- cut out most of my carbs. I was eating bread and rice once or twice a week.

I am still unhappy about this because I know that if I begin to feel like I'm dieting, eventually I will give up!

Every person who gets banded has tried every diet out there. Feeling like living with the lapband is just another diet, in my opinion, defeats the whole purpose. I'm just not happy right now. Good luck, and congratulations on your two pound loss!

By the way, I forgot to mention that my doctor has told me not to drink 390 minutes before eating, during a meal, and 30 minutes after a meal. It sounds like you need a fill. I've had two already and I'm scheduled for a third one on September 9.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
