So I am 4 days post op and they said I had a huge hiatal hernia which caused a lot of air in my chest and my left shoulder. It will not go away and I can not burp either. Today was the first day to go on full liquids and I was full very quickly, so that I liked. Has anyone else had this shoulder problem?? Also looking for a group or someone to talk with along this life journey!!

I have been told that it is gas and moving will help it go away faster. maybe try to walk and really move those arms.

The shoulder pain is normal for most people after surgery. It is caused by the gas they blow up your abdomen during surgery with. The best thing to do is walk and walk some more, keep moving, it is what will move the gas out. You could try some gas-x, but it may not work seeing as how the gas is in your abdomen and not in your intestines or stomach, but you could always try it. Also a good relieve is a heating pad it really helps ease the pain when your sitting still or walking if it is cordless.

That's about right for the pain. The shoulder pain is gas. You have to walk it off and move your arms a lot. Did your doctor prescribe pain meds?

It eventually goes away but the first day after my surgery I felt like a Mack truck had hit me two weeks later I was totally fine. It takes awhile to heal but the pain is all worth it for the end result! Good luck to you!

Yes, I had the same thing. The best you can do is walk. Some people said gas x worked but walking did it for me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
