It's a better q for the doc. However, 6 weeks is typical for full recovery. However, you have zero margin for any setbacks so take extreme care during your recovery to eat well, drink lots, relax and heal.

I agree, you need to ask your doctor to be safe.

I will say this based on my own experience. I recently went to a carnival and I rode on the rides. Many of the restraint bars were situated right around the area where my port is. One actually pressed on it. Because of this, there is no way I'd go on rides that soon after surgery. I'm really afraid it would hurt the port area.

I'm in the same situation. Was banded on June 26. Going to kings island this weekend. I asked my doc and he said it was fine! My doc is more lenient than most it seems! I got to eat mushies the day after surgery ! Ask YOUR doc !!

First, see what your doctor says, he is the ultimate decision maker here. I have not visited an amusement park since my surgery, but I do have some experience with moving aroud since my banding in April. I design and program heavy machinery for the tape industry. Occasionally, I have to climb into, over or under some equipment to make an adjustment. Since my surgery, I find I can fit in smaller places....however, like Achilles, I now have a weak spot.

If I push or press too hard on my port site, it hurts. I find if I lean over certain things and press into my port, it still is tender. I don't know where your port is, but think about some of the faster rides you might want to go on. If the safety rails or harnesses press on your port or incision sites, it might make for an uncomfortable ride. My advice would be to stick with the Teacups, Pirates of the Caribbean and It's a Small World. Avoid the Rock 'N Roller Coaster and Expedition Everest this trip.

Kind of agree with NJDad! Take the smaller rides that do not push on your stomach. Stay away from rides with tight restraints that might push on tummy or port. Enjoy and best wishes!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
