Hi James

This is a great place for information.

I have no regrets at all about getting my lapband. It was the best thing I ever did. I started with a 54" waist now... 30" waist.

Hi James and welcome. Yes, the good ol internet has a profound way of giving us sometimes extreme and wrong information that can sway us away from healthy decisions. For every action you can find an example of why it is harmful, wrong etc. The best thing to do is get educated to make an informed decision. Everyone here is supportive, and more importantly, honest and matter factly. You will find a spectrum here as well from those who are noncompliant/unsuccessful to those who have been successful for over 10 years. Please find someone whom you relate to who you feel can provide you excellent information to assist you in making this decision for yourself.

Hi James and welcome!

Don't let all the shock and horror stories around the internet get to you. Reading about other people's personal experience can be very helpful, but don't base your decisions on anecdotal evidence you find on the internet. Research the actual facts and base your decision on that. For every Lap Band horror story out there, remember this: Only 5% of complications are caused by no fault of the patient. The rest caused the problems with their own behaviors. If you are compliant with your doctor's guidelines the odds are in your favor to be successful with the band.

Best wishes!

Welcome James. As I told my daughter before I had surgery you can get what ever facts you want off the internet. She was upset that I was having this done as she found a story on the internet that said 87% of lap band procedures had complications! That is just not true. But like i said the internet can give you any view point you want to get. It does not mean it is right!

Hi and welcome to the best site ever!!! I didn't find this site until after my surgery and I never researched anything. My lung doctor told me you are going to this meeting (he made the appointment) and told me, you are getting the band. Best thing to happen to me. Tomorrow is 1 year and I am healthier and happier because of it. If you are bad with your food choices like even drinking and eating together, then whose fault, not the band. The doctor's office and dietitian will have their own rules and requirements as every one is different. Friday I will be getting a fill and my doctor has me on liquids for 3 days and then mushie foods for 3 days then back to my normal foods. Other doctors are different, so just remember we can all try to help you but listen to your doctor's advice.

What state/country are you from? I am from the Boston area. We are all from around the world and it's great.

Arlene

 Welcome to our forum! I am a member of the "Happy Banders": I would not ever have mine removed. It is a part of me, it tells me when I have eaten enough. I eat my noon meal at our local senior center & many times I put down my fork after a few bites and just tell myself "you feel full". Sometimes I put what is left in a container to take home (for my supper, the dog or the disposal) and occasionally just leave the leftovers to be discarded there. I was always a member of the "clean your plate club" and this was hard to do when I first started my inner communication with my LapBand. Wishing a healthy future to all Lap Band Carriers!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
