I was banded 2nd of April and today my hair is coming out in LOADS!!!! So so so scary! Someone has told me to pack Protein in and at the same time take Biotin which I've started today!

But has anyone had the same problem? What did you do!!!? Did it stop!? ( please tell me it did !)

Thanks

Lexi

Mine just started falling out in clumps too (banded april3) and I've been taking Biotin the whole time and I get over 100 grams of Protein a day so not lacking in those two areas.. anytime in the past I've shocked my body w a significant diet change I have had significant Hair loss but it does eventually stop and comes back just fine... I was prepared for it...I think some of us just have bodys/hair that choose to revolt to the change.I don't have many answers other than to say hang in there and to say yr not alone, me too :-) sometimes that helps!...good luck

Have any of you tried the hair skin nail Vitamins? I was more recently banded and have started noticing my hair shedding more than normal so in addition to the Protein and Biotin I've started taking the hair skin and nail Vitamins and I'm hoping I can tell the difference shortly.

Hello all. It's your body's natural reaction to stress. Biotin (hair/nail vit) may help with growing strong/longer hair but it does not prevent Hair loss. Think of it as a building compound for future follicles. So once your body is ready to regrow hair, hopefully, biotin can expedite the process. I am not familiar w/ studies that can give us an idea of how long stress induced hair loss lasts for and when we can anticipate regrowth (or of any compounds that can help with preventing hair loss although I don't think it exists). If anyone has anything to add to that topic, please advise.

3 months out is right around the time I started to loose hair, and pretty typical from what I've read on forums. Try not to worry, it will stop and grow back. I know how scary it is. I went to the dermatologist when it happened to me. Much to my relief, he assured me I wasn't going bald. He said it's a reaction to the stress of rapid weight loss. A couple months later it stopped falling out and started growing back in. I didn't take Biotin and had always gotten at least 60 gms of Protein. Good luck, you should be fine!

You can use Nioxen Shampoo as well that is what my Dr. recommends along with Protein. You can find it at most salons. I know Walmart salons carries it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
