I was banded by dr. Kuri in Tijuana. Everything I read about him was accurate! A well skilled surgeon with over 5500 surgeries performed. He does not overload himself with patients and will come to visit you after surgery to check on you and release you. This does not happen in Canada! The facility was top notch and everyone who was associated with dr. Kuri (nurses, other surgeons, drivers, hotel staff) all make you fully aware that they are there to assist you and help you. It was most bizarre to be honest. It's like they truly care.

Tijuana is not the town I remember it to be nd was scared to go back. Tijuana has grown into a beautiful city. However, there are still slums like any city has.

Right now I'm starving, headaches from dehydration, restless legs, and can hardly wait to fly home today and be in my home. My one incision is itchy, another one is bruised, and the other three are irrelevant as they are tiny and don't bother me.

I have 100 lbs to lose and am looking forward to next month when I can start to eat normal again. I'm excited that 1-1 1/2 cups of food will fill me up! I believe that should make choosing healthy foods to eat easier than before. I used to have to force myself to eat healthy as it didn't feel me up quickly.

Am interested in reading this forum and hearing other people's success stories.

Glad to hear your experience has been good so far. As someone who has been banded nearly 7 months, there's one thing you noted that I have to clarify for you. You say your excited that 1 1/2 cups of food will fill you up. That's actually not correct. There is no such thing as being full...at least not as we who are overweight understand full. For us, full means stuffed and you no longer do that once banded.

The goal is to eat to satiety...or to eat until you are no longer hunger. That's not the same as being full. It takes time to figure out what 'not hungry' is but once you do, it's like having the keys to the kingdom. When you can stop before eating everything on your plate, or when your brain says, OK, I had enough, you start to think like thin people do. It's truly a wonderful thing and makes me feel empowered and in control. Good luck to you on your weight loss journey.

Glad you are doing well. Make sure you drink as much as you can! Keep Water with you at all times and continue to sip. You don't want to end up in the ER from dehydration. Have a safe flight home!

I am allergic to adhesive tapes and got a very bad rash all over my stomach and torso from where the bandages were placed, you may have the same issue?

Welcome to "Bandland!"

Were you given a pre-op plan to follow?

Week 1 - Clear fluids

Week 2 - Full fluids

Week 3 - Mushie foods

Week 4 - Solid to "Normal" foods

This is a great site for information. If you can try to find a support group in your area. If you have any question please feel free to e-mail me. I also have free long distance and would be happy to chat with you on the phone.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
