How is everyone doing? Is anyone else who was banded towards the end of the month back on normal foods? I asked a question in the post op section and it sounds like most don't progress from liquids and mushies till 4-6 weeks and my doc transitioned me at 2 weeks and I haven't had any problems until today when I ate a couple chicken strips and now don't feel too great.

I have been trying normal foods with no real issues. Banded 9/30. Haven't done any bread or steak, pork. But chicken and ground meats have been no problem.

I am eating real food most of the time. Tonight i tried eating a tortilla and so far that has been the only food i can't eat. No more tortillas for me for awhile.

I am eating about 1/2 a cup still and staying full for 6 hours or so. I guess I was just scared that I was the only one back on solids already. I don't want to risk a slipped band! I haven't thrown up once which I great.

I have had chicken this week but the chicken strip was too much I think. I just feel like a total idiot.

What would a slipped band feel like? I've had no problems eating most anything. I've had a stuck feeling about 3 times but after a few minutes it went on down. I reach a full feeling. I try not to over do it and I haven't felt miserable since I've had the band except once. I've slowly advanced my diet since I was banded on Sept 26th. Now I'm scared I've screwed something up too - but I don't think so...ugh

You are doing beautifully. Just left you a big long post on that thread. Stop beating yourself up and consider it lesson learned. You got this. Just slow down and listen to your body.

I am such a worry wort that I have the same fear, I am going to scale back to mushies for a few more days. I am scheduled for a post op/fill on the 29th and am planning on texting my docs RN to ask her a few questions about a slip or dilated pouch just to ease my mind. :-)

Georgia it's good to see you back. I would be willing to bet you don't have a slip. There is a search feature on the site that will show you many a post about slips that you could compare yourself to. However, if you're feeling "stuck" I would say your fine. You'd be in some pretty good pain and have other issues than just being stuck if you had slipped. As far as stuck goes, slow down, chew more, smaller bites. If you find yourself burping a lot while eating you're moving too fast. It's a new experience to us all and we are all learning to change years of habits. You'll figure out what works out best for you.

Thank you for your reassuring words as always! I in my head know I am doing well but when everyone says they started solids at 4-6 weeks it's hard not to second guess myself and my doc.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
