I had my surgery 9/27 and Ive lost 16 lbs. My 1st fill is scheduled for 10/31 - Halloween! but I'm looking forward to it because i don't have much restriction and haven't lost any weight this week. However, I am doing good with my walking schedule, getting 3-4 miles a day at least 3 days a week so far. My plan is to try to get to 4 miles a day 4 days a week.

I had my first fill yesterday - it didn't hurt like I thought it would. It was a little uncomfortable, but I honestly thought it would hurt more. I got a 2.5 fill, the doctor made me drink 2 cups of Water before I could leave. I feel fine. I was banded on 9/13.

I could feel a little restriction when I was on the treadmill yesterday. liquid diet yesterday, today just supposed to eat normally just don't overdo it.

We will see

Hey TL' date=' I figured I'd catch you here instead of on Dixie's thread. Saw your response to my post about the airplane. I'm glad you were able to take something from that story. It was a life changing experience for me.[/quote']

That person on the plane could have been me in a matter of speaking. It amazes me how many people judge me for my size and yet are surprised by my intelligence. I hope to some day be able to walk into a room and people notice me and not my size.

Thank you again for posting!!

Heres the plane story. On another thread a woman was talking about how she was miserable on a flight and is terrified to fly again. She was mortified because the guy next to her asked to change seats. I was just trying to help her look at things in a different perspective. So, heres my story

I was on a flight to Detroit a few years back and the entire plane loaded. Every seat was filled on the plane except the one next to mine. I'm a big guy so I was ecstatic and happy that no one had to sit next to me. After a few minutes of sitting there a guy boarded the plane. I took one look at this guy, looked at the seat next to me, looked back at the guy, looked back at the seat knowing it was the only empty seat and thought to myself, holy cow. This was a big guy. I mean big. He made me look skinny. He was coming right for me and I was pissed that I had to sit next to this guy. I was already crowding the seat but now I was squished. As soon as the guy sat down he apologized for being fat and that I had to sit next to him. My heart broke right then and there because I understood his sentiment. Turns out, he was one of the best and coolest strangers I ever had the chance of meeting. The guy had an awesome career and one hell of a life story. We laughed until we cried the entire flight. It was one of the best flight experiences I ever had and it was all thanks to the fat guy that anyone else would have asked to change seats. The point of this long story is this. Next time something mortifying happens, don't be mortified. Don't let them think it bothered you. They don't know you, they don't know your story. Don't be shy and share your life with a stranger. You might just change their mind like my mind was changed. I can honestly say it was one of the most life changing events I've experienced. I learned to give people a chance before I place opinions.

I have my 1st support group meeting tonight. I'm kinda looking forward to it. I have some questions and things I would like to discuss with others...

Also, my boyfriend has been with me every step of the way from the beginning thru this experience...don't get me wrong, I love it! He is great support! But I don't get much chance to talk with the other 7 people who were banded the same day I was at my surgical center and I am hoping group will be a place for me to get to know them more...

Also, I was given the all clear to try real food last week but take it slow. I've been trying everything and having no reactions including toasted english muffin with jam. However, last night I met my match! I had made french toast with whole wheat bread for the boyfriend on sunday. There was 1 piece left so i had tossed it in the fridge in a zipbag. I was home alone last night so decided to have that piece of toast for dinner with some fruit. NOPE! I don't know if i ate it too fast or didn't chew good enough but we were warned about breads and now I understand why.

10 minutes after I ate this, the pain in my chest and back were aweful until I tossed my cookies...Then I felt better... Cross french toast off the list!! Lesson learned!

Today I'm having a lot of soreness near my port. I finally figured out where it is! LOL I didn't know exactly. Now I am sure I know. It's about 3 inches up from my belly button. My tummy is a B shape, and it's right at the bend in between, and I hope I haven't done anything to flip it or hurt it.

Please tell me how the fill is? Do you have more restriction? does it feel different?

My first fill went well. I have to admit, I was scared and my nurse offered to give me litacain before the fill so I wouldn't feel the needle. Litacain stings really bad so I opted to pull up my big girl pants and just go for the fill. It was not bad at all. I barely felt it. I am so glad I didn't numb myself first, I am sure that would have been worse.

As far as my fill working, I was on all liquids the day of the fill, mushies yesterday, and today I am eating soft foods. I have noticed some restriction, but not a ton. This morning when eating a scrambled egg, I took too big of a bite and felt it sit there for a few. My band was completely empty and they put in 3 cc which seems like the norm for a first fill. I actually go in another week to follow up and they will add more if needed.

I hope this helps!

Kyrie

I have been banded month today. So far down 14 pounds but seem to be stuck. I'm hoping I go down more. Don't know when my next fill is. But I already have 5cc from surgery in my 10cc band.

that is pretty much my story except i get my first fill today at 9am PST YEA!! so ready to not feel hungry i know i most likely won't hit the green zone the first time round but long as i get a little closer i'll be happy..

Good luck with your fill today!!

it went great : it went easy and quick. The nurse had me half sit up to make the port more accessible, numbed the area and after checking how much Fluid was already in there filled me up. The only thing I find interesting is I already had 4ccs of fluid in my 14cc band. I had absolutely no restriction with this much in already. They added 2ccs bringing the total up to 6cc. based on the average they see of folks with the same size band she is hopeful I will find the green zone at between 7 and 9 cc. Here's hoping i'm one large step towards that goal now

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
