Any other September 2013 bandsters?

Recommended Posts

You and I are on the same schedule. I was banded on 9/13. My first fill is 10/14. I'm only consuming around 750-800 per day. I can't get higher than that because I'm not hungry. Nervous about getting a fill because I'm not that hungry. I've lost 21 pounds - so I guess I'm doing ok.

Are you nervous about the first fill? I've read everyone's comments on them and I know I'll be ok, but I really don't know what to expect.

I'm self pay - so the first 2 fills are free so I'm not sure. I will talk to dr about everything.

Glad we are twins ;-).

I am not too nervous for the fill b/c I had an UNFILL about 10 days ago and I kind of feel like I know what to expect.

When they primed my 14 CC band, they meant to remove all of the Fluid in it but accidentally left a little bit in, which happens from time to time. Some surgeons even leave Fluid in the band during surgery.

I feel lucky in that I was never hungry the first three weeks. Once they removed the 0.8 cc's I DID feel a difference and my appetite returned---although not as strong. This week I've hit 1,000 cals. every day. If I'm not hungry, I add a scoop of Protein to my Water for the extra Protein and the extra 100 calories to get me there.

My nurse told me to just do what was comfortable and listen to my body as I am healing.

When I had my unfill, I had to lay on a table and lift my legs up. The nurse felt around for the port. She cleansed the site, took a syringe with a fairly long needle and put it in. It felt like a little sting but it was not bad. It actually hurt worse when she pulled it out. I'm not sure why it was that way unless she pulled it out at a different angle or moved it around. She then put a little gauze over the port. I had one or two drops of blood. The whole thing lasted 15-30 seconds for me. I was fine after that. :) Also, if you are not hungry, you do not have to get a fill. At least I know that is usually the case. As long as you are staying satisfied for 4-5 hours and losing weight, my surgeon says you don't need a fill. Every surgeon is different, but I've read that about other bandsters as well. Don't let anyone FORCE it on you. I receive two years of aftercare included in the cost of my surgery.

Congratulations on your weight loss! :)

thank you for this post - I have my 1st fill scheduled for 10/31 and was wondering how bad it would be! It doesn't sound so bad...

Anyone else having shoulder pain when they yawn or after eating? I'm getting it lately, or rather recognizing it (maybe because it's the first week with no pain meds)? Sharp pain after breathing in deeply very quickly, and goes away pretty fast too.

Hi!

It's good to see all the progress the September bandsters are making!

I have my first fill on Monday and for the last week I feel like I am constantly hungry. I'm excited to get back to the feeling of not thinking about food constantly! I have lost and maintained 12 lbs since surgery, which I feel is low but my nurse assured me is normal because we are going for healing right now not weight loss. Do you feel that is correct?

Yesterday, I decided to push myself a little more than normal and mowed our lawn before the storm hit. After I was done, I had the most horrible pain under my main incision (hurt like 3rd day post op), so I called my nurse thinking I had screwed something up with my port. She was awesome and listened to my teary-eyed story. Then she assured me that I didn't mess my port up, but rather probably popped a few stitches. She said its a good and bad thing, good because my scare tissue will form quicker to keep my port in place and bad because now I'm going to be hurting for a few days. Moral of this long tale: even though you feel almost normal at 5 weeks...still take it easy!!!

Have a good one!

Vida, I asked my doc about it cause I kinda had the same thing. He told me I may be consuming too much. Turned out I was making my shakes too thick but it caused pressure on my diaphragm and was having relative pain in the shoulder. He told me not to worry but to thin things up.

Took this at docs office so I would know what I was getting myself into. Not too big and no bigger than an IV needle it looked like.

OK, so i kinda cheated today. I am still on liquids only + yogurt for 2 more days and I broke down added an egg to my chicken broth. I am allowed poached eggs in 2 days. I tried to make my own egg drop Soup, but I guess the broth wasn't hot enough and it just turned cloudy. I heated it up some more and omg it was delish!! I hope it continues down my digestive tract as happily as it went in. LOL

Please be careful! You are still healing. I am 14 days out of surgery and just this week started walking. Doing 2 miles a day. As far as your weight loss, I get my scale back tomorrow from my boyfriend who confiscated it for the week so I will see how much if anything I have lost this week. My appetite is back also and I am able to eat just able anything I want. I had a bit of trouble with some dry Salmon & green Beans last night and had to slow down. Thought I was going to vomit but didn't... I had lost 11 lbs as of Monday but I think about food all day! I follow all the rules about Protein in the morning and Water and still by 10am I am thinking about something else to eat... I get my 1st fill on 10/31 - I sure hope it helps.

Keep me updated on how your fill goes...

That actually sounds good! I don't think egg will hurt you at this point but way to stick to the rules!! I haven't been able to..been way too hungry.

Ok, so I was banded 2 weeks ago and not scheduled for my 1st fill until 10/31. My problem is chocolate! chocolate has always been my problem...grrr

I follow all the rules, Protein and Water in the morning 1st thing! lots of protein! I get on average of 120 gm of Protein a day. I know I need a fill because I think about food a lot and I do not stay full for more than a couple hrs. But the big problem started yesterday. I want chocolate!! I ate 1 small, bite-size, 3 musketeers and it was heaven!

However, I didn't get this band to destroy all my efforts because I can't control my urges for chocolate.< /span>

Someone, anyone, have any suggestions for ways to curb this craving?

I had problems with breathing, still a slight issue, I think it is caused by eating. At least that's when I notice it the most.

How about a Protein Bar? I really liked the Zone bars. Why not cut it in 4ths or smaller and eat one section and see if it tides you over?

Congrats on the fill date. I go Nov. 7th for my first fill. I have been having the chocolate cravings also and when that happens I eat some chocolate sugar free pudding. It has been helping me with the cravings. Hope that it will help you also.

About the chocolate cravings - I like to eat low fat/low cal chocolate pudding - I think they are 60 calories or so (if you look at the pkgs some have 30% Calcium - and it helps me ALOT! I adore chocolate - but this is my new fix (lol)

About the fills- thanks for explaining it to me & also the pix of the needle - thanks for explaining it to me ;)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
