I'm in Bandster Hell. Being that I could not diet before the lap band successfully. Now I have to wait for 4 weeks till my first fill (Aug 27). I have the same diet problems as before being banded. I can eat anything I want, I just eat slower, I don't make real bad food choices but portion sizes are not optimum, less than before the band though. I will call my Doctor, but want input from the forum.

If you are on real food, just make good dense Protein choices that will "stick to your ribs!" Plan your meals, eat slow and eat your protein first. It is hard, but it is also a huge head game. Drink lots of Water between meals and also throw in a snack like cheese and crackers, Peanut Butter and celery, or almonds and a good dry Cereal.

Whenever you think you are hungry and it hasn't been 4 hours, drink some flavored water or a V-8. Then if you are still hungry 20 minutes later have a snack.

It takes time to learn what is real hunger and what is head under. We are all used to eating what we wanted when we wanted and for comfort, not nutrition. You will now learn to eat to fuel your body, not our emotions.

Keep trying. I also used Protein Drinks for the first 2-3 months, but then got off them and was just on real food. You need to find what works for you. All of us have different eating fixations and deal with head hunger different. Mix it up so you can find what works for you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
