Cost of Fills with Flouro.....

Recommended Posts

Just curious....How many of you guys get fills with flouro? This is now the only way my doc does them. When I was first banded, I had the option of with/without. I went in last month for a slight tweek, and he automatically led me to the flouro machine, and did my fill that way. I asked about just getting the fill without, he said they just don't do that at all anymore, since the fill under flouro is so much more exact and effective. Well, that's what we all want, right?! At any rate, when I got the bill, I was absolutely shocked. They charged me over 3500.00 for a measly less than 30 minute office visit and fill. Now of course, insurance negotiates that amount down, so I am out of pocket around 650.00, but good grief! I just wanted some others takes on this, and maybe your experiences etc.

Thats CRAZY! My insurance is billed $700 for nut visit, fluoro guidance, adjustment, etc, etc. And they pay about $365 I think.

ALL adjustments are done with fluoro at my surgeons office....I wouldn't want it any other way.

I can get you my exact bills if interested....

Yes, that would be great! I looked back at older claims from past fills, and the costs have dramatically increased. My last actual adjustment was in 2010. It was billed at $1100, and negotiated to $320. This one was billed at $3500 and negotiated down to $510, then of course the "office visit" was tacked onto that as well. I don't think the rates should have changed that much!

You shouldn't have to pay the difference unless you have a copay or coinsurance or deductible. Most of the time what the insurance company allows is what is agreeable as payment and the remainder shouldn't be billed to the patient. There are always exceptions but you should call your ins company and ask if you have a responsibility on that claim.

Wow! I hate to hear that. I'm covered with insurance so my office visits are $40 with or without flouro.

Heres a copy of a recent one. It's an 80-20 plan.

Pastor O...Pending the outcome of this, I just might do that!

Catfish...that is fascinating seeing your EOB. I have Aetna as well, also an 80/20. Unfortunately, I have not met my deductible yet this year. I cannot figure out how to attach a file on here, but I saved mine to post on here. Mine actually says "Gastric Band Adjustment" where as your says Flouro something.....but the cost is staggeringly different.

I think I will be making a nice little phone call Monday morning to see what I can do about things. If nothing else, I will say my piece, and make myself feel better!

Some of these Doctors & Insurance Workers need to stop taking advantage of people working so hard to change their lives. Being in ministry I have seen the way the medical field writes off large bills for addictions as alcohol & drugs !!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
