Never in a billion years thought I would ever be "normal" weight... But I did it! I am 5'11" and weigh 150 and wear a size 8/10 now (from a size 24). I lost 123 pounds in 2.5 years, been maintaining for the last 6-8 months. Just wanted to share so others know that it can be done. No more insulin or other medications, no worry about fitting in air plane seats or roller coasters. There have been ups and downs and I still don't always recognize the person in the mirror but I would do it again in a heartbeat! Good luck to everyone in their journey...

We can set our goals, as if we were on a diet and we can turn this thing on/off....the reality is it is a new lifestyle, a new different wy of eating that becomes life long and permanent .....

We have become fat because we eat wrong, and we eat way too much....with the band, we eat "Normal" again, with portions and hunger under control...therefore, over time, our bodies will eventually return to a "Normal" weight, fat %, where it should be.....

I had a few goals come and go throughout this journey....but I kept right on loosing....my Dr. said I would until my body reached that point of where it should be.....which it did....

I have not lost, or gained any weight in over a year now...my Dr. informs me I have no more excess weight to loose...therefore I have completed the journey, and now live a normal, healthy, everyday life....no longer worrying about calories, etc....as long as the band remains constant, I have no fear of ever being over weight again!!!........I will never have to go on a diet again......a complete and successful journey. A Lap Band Graduate...

Wonderful and inspiring.. I believe the band allows me to eat normally.. I am not on a diet .. I have been on every diet known to man.. none worked.. it was always temporary and once I fell off the wagon I would eat the wagon... I always felt deprived.. The band has made me feel satisfied and I do not feel deprived.. I eat a variety of things and sometimes a treat but overall I am eating healthier than ever before.. Keep up the good work.. love to see success...

Congratulations on reaching and on maintaining your goal. Thank you for sharing your story that it is possible to change the way we relate to food and how we proceed in that endeavor will determine if we are successful or not.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
