True or False? PB'ing & Vomiting within 6 Weeks of Banding

Recommended Posts

I just read somewhere that if you PB or vomit within 6 weeks of your surgery, your band will slip. I don't think I've vomited because whatever I spit up didn't feel like it went all the way down. Please share what you can about PB'ing and Vomiting - I don't know how to tell the difference. And...if doing either of those will cause a slip within the first 6 weeks.

Thank you!!!

I have vomited several times since surgery 7 weeks ago and my band has not slipped, but it is not recommended to ever vomit. I am just now getting the hang of eating right. PBing is like a baby burp, it is where you burp and a little bit of food comes back up in the back of your mouth. Vomiting is well you know everything comes back up. Hope that helps a little.

I think the theory is that without any restriction your stomach is more apt to move at this early stage after surgery. However, vomitting is a no no for the duration of your and your band's life. Now it'll occur on occassion..but it shouldn't be induced and if it persists (ie if you are ill) an unfill is warranted to avoid slippage and other damage)

What about things that can not be helped, like a stomach flu. That is discouraging that so much damage can come from vomiting even if it is not band related :(

I haven't heard that. I'm 2 weeks out and have vomited once. It was absolutely no fun so I definitely will try to avoid that in the future. On a side note, I specifically asked my doctor about vomiting because I don't live close to his office so I was worried about stomach bands and such, and he said while they advise to get an unfill if you're really ill, he's never personally had a patient slip their band from vomiting, and he's had a lot of patients. So that gives me a little piece of mind!

Honestly? All you can do is pray. I've now vomited 3 times since being banded. First time was from a strangulated hernia. Second time was when my gallbladder had to be removed. Ironically, the third time was just last night. I went on a carnival ride that went upside down and ended up sick (yes, you can laugh at that last one lol)

It is almost inevitable that at some point it will happen. All you can do is avoid it when you can and hope no damage is done if you do.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
