Loos Skin and exercise

Recommended Posts

OK, so I am one month post op, had my first fill yesterday, am feeling great...but I am worried about having all this sagging skin around my mid section after I loose weight (like a lot of guys, most of my excess weight is my belly). I know once you have the sagging skin, it is pretty much going to be there (barring cosmetic procedures), but can exercise help prevent or reduce the amount of sagging skin? If so what exercise(s) are most helpful.

I was told the skin just sags. Men do get tummy tucks, too. I live in MA and was told that some insurance companies pay for the tucks if there are rashes and if the skin sags below your private areas. I don't know, I have not lost enough weight yet.

At my monthly support meeting at the hospital they had a plastic surgeon come one time and discuss all this but that was when I was first banded.

Ask your doctor about this. No questions are dumb questions, that is the only way to learn, ask.

Nothing can prevent the sagging skin. The only redemption is to workout and build muscle which will help fill the void where fat once lingered. However, in most cases, you will not build as much muscle as there was fat and therefore you will continue to have sagging skin. How much depends on how large your stomach was from being overweight. Other factors include age, how long you have been carrying the excess weight and a bit of genetic predisposition as well. An overall weight lifting program is better than targeting one part of the body.

Not what I WANTED to hear (LOL), but thanks for the response....I am actually going to work out tonight for the first time in a LONG, LONG Time. I guess sagging skin beats a bulging belly and carrying all this weight around! At least the sagging skin won't lead to an early death! :)

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
