Looking to connect or hear stories of people's success with lapband with a bmi of around 35. I cuurently have a 35 bmi and am just curious how long it typically took people to reach a goal of a normal bmi. Thanks!

I started with a bmi of about 36 and I'm now a normal bmi a year later. I felt like I lost slow and steady. Good luck!

Did you have excess skin at all? That's a worry of mine...although I would take skin over fat any day!

I will definitely be watching for your progress! I am a 35 BMI and just got banded on the 18th.... very interested to hear about extra skin being an issue. Worried about that myself.... in my legs and arms especially. I have never gained weight in my stomach area but always in those areas

I had a little higher BMI at 39-40 but my dr said that is really a "sweet spot" to be at and have a successful outcome because you usually don't have alot of excess skin after losing . That's what I'm hoping for anyways!!!!

Yes I had a bmi of 41 I had a apron of excess skin so i had a Tummy Tuck 2 yrs after the band. So if you have a bit to loose you can count on excess skin I am sorry to say. But it's worth it on the long run. :)

How did ur Tummy Tuck turn out? Happy with results? And how much total weight did u lose?

Thanks

Hi I lost 20 before the band and 22 with the band I still have another 12-15 to go but I am happy at the moment. Tummy tuck looks fantastic as it has been 2 yrs since my first one then I changed dr and had a revision done about 12 mths ago and I am over the moon. You couldn't tell I had it done only for the faint line from hip to hip but my belly button is awesome. :)

That's fantastic!!! Congrats ! I just started this process but down 38 since may 29th. Have another 70 to go to reach my ultimate goal of 125 pounds!!! But encouraged to know Tummy Tuck results. I'm sure I will be looking at that along down the line. It's amazing what they can do! U prolly feel like a new woman !!!!! Can't wait to be there.

Thanks I am proud of my self to glad to see my feet again lol. that's fantastic the amout you have lost I not sure how much that is in kilograms though as we don't go by pounds in Australia. :)

Every step of your journey will be worth it there will be days when ur down because you can't eat like before but when you get use to the band it slowly gets easier. I have to learn all over again my self as mine was replaced on Monday the 15th due to a rare Slip. So I to have to start from scratch again. Well good luck and take care. :)

My BMI was 35 on surgery day, and I lost all my excess weight in 7 months. Got down to a BMI of 21at one stage (which was too skinny). Have had some complications but nonetheless have stayed on or around 100% excess weight lost for almost 5 years now.

Started at a BMI of 35, lost 100 lbs and am now scheduled for cosmetic surgery. Loose skin is caused by many variables (where did you hold your weight, how long have you been overweight, age, genetic dice etc). It is unlikely carrying large amounts of weight without having some excess skin. The question is how much you'll have and what you feel comfortable with after you lose the weight

It's not too bad. I feel 'soft' in areas if that makes sense, but I don't need skin surgery. I wouldn't mind having a Tummy Tuck eventually but I don't really need it...it would be more of a vanity thing.

Ps here's a progress pic I recently posted if this helps. I do go to the gym often, but not obsessively. I think genetics plays a big part.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
