May bandings, Updates wanted

Recommended Posts

Hey! I was banded May 6. I've had one fill (total 4.5 cc in 10 cc band) and I've lost 36 pounds. My weight loss has stalled for the last couple weeks. I don't think it's a fill problem but a food choice problem. I haven't been getting 60 grams of Protein so that means too many carbs. I've decided to buckle down this week and do low carb. I'm certain this will get the scale moving in the right direction. I haven't PB'd or vomited, but I'm starting to wonder if the "full" feeling in the middle of my chest sometimes is considered a stuck episode. I'm always able to drink with this feeling so I'm not sure what it is.

Banded May 15th, down 25 pounds total, including 10 pre-op. Had 2.5cc in 10cc band at time of surgery, plus one fill for total of 4cc two weeks ago. Seeing doc this Thursday, maybe for another fill...?

Had a glimpse of the green zone for a few days, possibly because I was at high altitude. Have gone back to normal/yellow since. Still happy: could ditch my blood pressure meds and down one size. Also, have no side effects/stucks/PBs...great win in my book

Slow and steady wins the race :-)

Hello :)

I was banded on May 24th, as of last Saturday I was at a 20 pound loss, 10 of which was pre-op. I have had one fill and have 4.5cc's in my band. 2nd fill on Aug 6th. Meals lasting closer too 3 hrs now if I have solid Protein in it. Minor "stuck" issues at times but is due too me learning bite sizes and thorough chewing....

Congrats everyone on your weight loss! Slow and steady wins the race :)

I was banded on May 6th. I have had two fills a total of 5.5 in a 10cc band. I have only lost 20lbs. I did not have to do a pre op diet. I am however wondering why I have not lost more. After the second fill, I tried to eat rice and got stuck so bad. The pain was unbearable and then I thrwe up and felt fine. It scared me so I chew very well now. (I have not tried rice since) I see in my clothes they are fitting me better or are loose. I am thankful that I have not gained weight... so like you all say slow and steady wins the race... I cannot wait to get to the finish line!!!!!!!

I had surgery May 21st 2013 and have lost 52 lbs so far. My goal is 120 so I'm almost halfway there. I've had 1 fill 4cc and I'm having another one tomorrow. I've been working out crazy hard and continue to see results.

I had my surgery on May 6th and so far lost about 24 pounds. I've had one fill so far, and think I could use another one. I see the Dr. in August and will find out then.

Weight loss has been stalled for me since right after surgery, I am eating well tracking calories and exercising…I see some change in weight distribution and inches, so I'm staying positive and hope to see those numbers go down!

May 10th for me. My surgeon says he only wants me to lose 3 to 5lbs a month and won't give me a fill. I was a little put out at first, but then I decided that it may take me longer to lose the weight but while I'm learning my new eating habits, the weight is off for good. I had the plication with my band and I think thats helping. I've lost a total of 34 lbs and 12 of that was preop. I guess if slow and steady wins the race, I should be toward the front.

I was banded May 24th as well, I have lost 21 lbs since I started the process (11lbs from pre op). I have had one 4cc fill a few weeks ago but thinking I may need another one. I have had some problems, but I am still trying to adjust. I was really feeling down not seeing the weight coming off, but after reading some of your comments slow and steady is the way to go.

Hi all!

Banded on May 8th and I'm down 36 (including pre-op diet). I have 8.5 cc's in a 14 cc band. My last fill was on Monday so I'm hoping I'm in a good place now.

I have gotten stuck a few times and threw up a 'jellyfish!' Good times. Still leaning what I can and can't eat. ???³

Banded May 6th. Down 27 pounds. I think that's pretty awesome for less then 3 months. I would have never been able to do that before.

I've had one fill, pretty sure I need another, but I'm working it! Keep the calories low and hitting the gym at least 5 days a week.

Feeling good!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
