I have been having hiccups so I told my Doctor about it. He had me do an upper GI and found that I have swelling in my esophagus and want to unfill my band. I am really scared and I am afraid of againing weight back. Has this happend to anyone. I had surgery Sept 29 and have lost 70 pound and would like to loss another 20 or 25. I need advice. Should I be freaked.

Hiccups is a very common sign of agitation of the diaphragm. For me, one big hiccup meant my diaphragm was telling me that I'd probably had enough or need to slow down eating or drinking. It's a very common bandster anomaly due to the band sitting up next to the diaphragm. I could see why he might consider unfilling you due to esophagitis/swelling. Don't fret. Just keeping eating the way you've been eating. Baby your esophagus if you need to, so that you can keep your band. Good luck!

Oh, hiccups are my clue that my meal is drawing to a close.

It's sort of like "Check Please!" and it's time to finish up.

I think Bandsters get them quite frequently - once I get one or two, I just know my meal is through. Mine are brief, but they get my attention. If I ever have one or two, I find popping a quick Rolaids gets some relief, and they stop.

But if they continued a long time, I understand why you'd be worried.

Happy Band (and Life) Journeys To All.

I went to the Doc and he said my esphagues(?) was swollen and he took the Fluid out of my band for a month. I still want to loose weight about 20 more pounds so I am worried. I did an upper GI so thats how we know what is going on.

Sharilynn,

I get them ALL the time. Usually after a meal, I guess it's just trying to help things get moving or something, lol.

If you are without a fill for a month, my recommendation would be to take the time and just work on maintaining. You could try and lose more of course, but I think it might be easier and less stressful to just maintain until you have the use of your tool back. You know?

Of course, I'm way more than 20 lbs from goal, and if I were that close, I might just want to grind through it, lol.

:D

I dont feel any restriction and I was afraid to eat certian things before but now I think I could eat them. I love my band and the hiccups have stopped now. So I will do what my Doc say for a month but look forward to the feeling again. I actually looked forward in feeling full. I also think it is a mind game I play with myself.

Its funny I was talking about this with my husband last week - I have only had the hiccups twice since being banded. The first time was during a very ugly PB - I PB'd and started hiccuping and then PB'd again and they went away. The second time I think I just plain ate to much.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
