The nutritionist at my surgeons office and I were talking some time back (really she was talking and I was just listening, thinking yea right) about me doing some kind of "impact cardio" as she called it, to help with longterm health of bones, etc. I haven't ran in over 20 years,..at Ft. Bliss, TX in 1993 to be exact and I did NOT like it back then. But I see so many people running and hear lots of good health benefits from it. And I read on here from some of the fine folks about how good they feel after running.....Hmmmm, what am I missing out on? I cycle a decent amount now and I feel healthier than I EVER have in my life....could I possibly tolerate running...let alone ENJOY it? I wanna find out! "Mix things up a little" as some of the most successful folks describe on here.

So this morning after I got home from work, I said "ITS TIME"...time to see If I could make a go at it. We used to HAVE to run 2 miles back in those days, so I said that's gonna be todays goal.....I really didn't think I'd ever run the whole two miles. Now to you Pro's, my pace was probably laughable...but I did it. "Ran" the entire 2 miles without stopping. I think I shall continue to do this running thing, at least occasionally....not just because of what the NUT said....but from all the good things I hear about it from folks on here. From folks just starting out, those doing a "5KM", to people I see doing marathons on here and all in between.....Thanks for the motivation!!

Congrats! You are doing great!!

I looked at your before & after pictures, and you look amazing :) How wonderful! And as far as your 2 miles being "laughable", just remember..... Everyone who started out, didn't start out doing 5Ks! Back in the day when aerobics classes were "the thing" (in the 80s), when I first started going, I felt completely uncoordinated & couldn't get the moves. After a month, I kept up just like everyone else. Baby steps..... ;)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
