KellyxMarie 0 Posted July 22, 2013 I am uninsured, so I will be self-paying, but my question is, are there any insurances that I could buy that would wind up costing me less than the surgery would cost me?
dylanmiles23 2,198 Posted July 22, 2013 Every state should have on their web site an insurance site. I know MA does. Also some doctors are known to do things for cash. Blue Cross pays for WLS but I don't know how long you have to be insured before they pay. Good luck. Maybe try a big city hospital and ask, questions are free. AZ Gary 149 Posted July 22, 2013 Not sure where you live at and if the Affordable Care Act is going to impact you in October. I think you will have a difficult task finding a company like that. The insurance company is basically like Vegas, they are betting that they can make more than they have to payout. 1 2muchfun reacted to this
2muchfun 8,927 Posted July 22, 2013 You would have to buy insurance with a bariatrics rider and I seriously doubt you would be able to find an insurer who would cover you. It's like wrecking your car and then applying for insurance after the fact. If you go to work for a business that already has a plan that covers all employees, you would be grandfathered in but that does not sound like your scenario? nf105783 3 Posted July 22, 2013 My insurance does not pay. It's written in the policy they will not cover bariatric surgery. I am paying cash but My Dr. requires $3500 down and I can pay $100 per month interest free. I think its well worth it. If you pick up a new insurance you will probably have to go through a year waiting period to have record of not losing weight on your own. It's a game with them. Good Luck!
