disappointing myself

Recommended Posts

I got band 6/19/12, but I have only lost 40 lbs with band and 12 lbs before band. I keep going up and down the scale. I'm wondering this is normal? Maybe I'm over filled? I lost count how my CC's I have... I have a friend at work and she has less CC's and doing great. I keep slimming every now and then. What do you recommend? I exercise 4 days a week and eat 1/6 of what I used to eat. Which is not much. I keep thinking this was a mistake. I was 100% sure when I was band and new this was not going to be easy, but brother.... I need guidance!!" PLEASE!

Are you tracking everything? Are you eating real food or drinking or are you eating sliders. If you are sliming, I would say too tight and you need to get to a point where you can eat real food without sliming. I exercise every day. It is a huge commitment, but it got the weight off (165 pounds) in 14 months. You just have to find the right combination. Have you been seeing your nutritionist? Mine really helped me along with tracking EVERYTHING!

Wow!!!! That's great! Don't be so hard on yourself. But also remember you're working out so muscle weighs more!! Keep that in mind. Also try not to weigh yourself every day. You're doing beyond great! Congrats

I agree with SueBee, track everything you eat. It's great your eating less food than you used to but that doesn't necessarily mean less calories. Weight loss boils down to simple math: When you burn more calories than you consume you lose weight. Tracking calories is the easiest way to assure that happens.

tracking your calories is the best way to know absolutley what you are eating but make sure you are absoutley honest about everything you eat... I even track my coffee w/ creamer... you might be surprised how many calories there are in things..even though you are eating way less than you used to it doesn't mean you are getting the proper Protein and calories...I think with a little guidance and changes you will do great..

Maybe your body is just stabilizing before dropping the next chunk -- less stressful to your body to go in stages. A 40 # loss in a year seems very healthy, now to regroup with docs to get fill right for next round. Pat yourself on the back -- you are doing really well!

Well, congratulations on your 40 lb weight loss. Ask your doctor what he thinks is right for you.

It's a slow process but if you feel you're doing everything right you might want to consult with your doctor and a nutritionist. Good luck!

Great advice, I will keep it all in mind. I feel that my Dr. Is not as sympathetic since he had the lap band and lost a ton of weight. I will started counting calories. Write it all down to see what's going on. I promise I will exercise every day. I will be in onederland this time next year! (God willing)! ':)

I didn't count calories but when my girlfriend recently mentioned that she ate less than me but wasn't losing, I got her to journal her calories for a few weeks and WHOA she ate a lot more than she thought she was, and all high calorie foods too. Where I'd eat an entire piece of salmon and be overly full, she'd have 1/3 of one then eat a creme brulee and have three cocktails. And 2 hours later she was hungry and I wasn't.

Portions are important but what makes up the portions are equally important. Good luck with breaking the plateau!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
