Back to work tomorrow! banded the 19th

Recommended Posts

Well today is my last recovery day I am headed back to work tomorrow after being banded on the 19th. I am feeling good today. No pain meds so far. Some soreness in my abdomen but trying to keep walking and stretching it out. I am nervous to return to work because I am a nurse and work 12 hr shifts but my boss at work knows so I have permission to take it easy and do what I can. I don't have a desk job but I can sit at my desk on and off through the day. guess we will see how it goes.

From my own experience - it's good your manager knows. I was banded on the 11th and planned to return to work on the 15th and made it a few hours before being totally exhausted. I ended up taking most of last week off. My manager knew it would all be a little TBD and was very accommodating.

Wow, that might be kind of rushing things. I went back to work after exactly a week and spent all day feeling like I was going to pass out! I wasn't in any pain, but I was extremely weak and light-headed.

That does seem fast. I was banded 7/15 and won't go back to work until after my next dr appt which is on 07/29. I feel good, no pain at all, but I am just starting to do some housework and have to take breaks. My energy is just not there yet, even with all the supplements I have been taking. Take it easy at work, don't try to go too fast.

Thanks for all the advice! I have another nurse on standby so if I cannot make it but with a recent change in ownership if company I really can't afford to take off because we have no pto. I am not going to push myself too far though. I shall see how tomorrow goes

My surgery is on the 31st and I'm going back on Aug. 5th. Hopeful it works out okay. I'm a 3rd grade teacher with a coteacher in the room, but it's our first year working together in the same room. I've had 4 cesareans and a hysterectomy, from all of which my recovery was easy....vacuuming and doing laundry the day I got home. I'm a few years older now, but hope I can handle going back quickly! Everyone's recovery has been quite varied. Students return on Aug. 8th.....Please say a prayer for me when the time comes!!!

How'd it go' date=' mommy?[/quote']

Well the last two days have definitely been a challenge! I completed both 12 hour shifts and am feeling ok! Monday was a super busy day at work and I thought I was gonna die but I made it and after a good nights sleep last night I did better today. I am having annoying pain to my left shoulder ( I am told from gas) and tightness in my shoulders. ( I am normally a stomach sleeper so I think making myself sleep on my back is stressing me) other than that its been rare mild pain some discomfort with bending over and little energy! But I survived and am off the next two days before I go back for the 3 day weekend!! Thanks for all the support!

And I have an awesome support system at work!

I also work in a hospital and work 12 hour shifts, be careful not to lift anything over 10 pounds, when i returned to work i almost forgot not to lift. I did not tell my manager about my surgery because i had about 16 days of vacation afterwards it was nice to be off to heal.

But when i was at work and needed to move a bed or pick up a patient , or move them around i had to stop and get help.

Good luck and be easy

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
