Officially in Bandster Hell. Help!

Recommended Posts

I am 3.5 weeks out from my surgery and feeling pretty good. I've started exercising again and had a meeting with my nut last Friday. She told me I should be eating around 800-900 calories right now and not be hungry. I'm not sure if she forgot/didn't know that I have absolutely no fill..... I am hungry! I ate 1 scrambled egg and 1/2 cup of high Protein Greek yogurt for Breakfast and I didn't even feel full afterwards. I won't get my first fill until August 1st (I'm going to call tomorrow and ask if I can come in sooner). I am officially in bandster hell. I'm keeping my calories around 1100 (what my nut said was my upper limit) and I'm exercising daily (walking for 45 minutes fast or spinning or elliptical) but I'm hungry and cranky all the time. How did you all get through bandster hell? I just need some tips to get me through until I can get a fill! Sooo hunnngggrryy

The way I got through it was spreading my calories out through the day. If I tried to eat 3 meals a day only, I'd have been horrifically cranky and hungry. It just wasn't happening. So, I had little meals/snacks every 2 hours. I also heavily focused on Protein.

For me, it worked. I was able to still stay within my 1000-1200 calorie daily allowance without being starving all the time. It also allowed me to continually lose weight even though I was in bandster hell.

It sucks!! Hang in there!

That's the same day I'm getting my first fill! It's been tough! Like others have said I can eat anything and everything. Trying to stay under 1200 calories each day but there are days that I eat over and cheat. I don't beat myself up over it. Normally the next day I can recover if I'm conscious of it. Good job on the exercise by the way! I pack on Protein with meats like chicken. An extra couple ounces of chicken makes me a lot fuller than a Protein shake. It's a mind game. Like others gave said spread those meals out. DRINK LOTS OF WATER!!! That is what gets me through between meals. Keep it up only about another week!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
