Restriction definition

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I have this question,I have been banded 3 and a half months ago and usually food gets stuck up on my band, and I still haven't got my first fill. do think its a good idea to have a fill for me?

I dont get the meaning of this restriction which everyone talks about. I start eating and food gets stuck after awhile, it starts to hurt so I stop eating. Is it how it should be? is this what restriction means?

I have been banded 2 months and it is my understanding is I am suppose to learn to stop eating before it hurts.

When I eat slow I start to feel pressure in my chest that is when I stop.... when I continue it hurts.

I think you should talk with your doctor and nutritionist.

I think of pain as I am possibly stretching my pouch..... Something I do not want to do!!

Best luck in your journey... :D

Please tell your doctor and nutritionist about your experience. This is not what you should be going through. Food stucks should be rare, not common. You could be doing damage. You should not be eating till it hurts. I never feel restriction and have had great success with the band so far. Again...speak with your doctor immediately.

Your doctor may have primed your band at surgery, so it may not be empty. Some people don't ever need a fill so you need to call them right away. If you are following the rules of 2-3 ounces of Protein in very small bites you should not be getting stuck with no fill. Please call them.

Thanks alot, you all really help

He told me that he hadn't filled it.

I believe it might be for speed and the size of the bite I swallow.but can you tell me how restriction feels? does it mean that after a certain amount it hurts a bit or ur hunger just gets satisfied with the food?

I have lost 73 lbs. and only once felt 'restriction'. What you should feel is satiety rather than hunger. And you shouldn't feel full. If you do, you ate too much.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
