Why the Lapband?

Recommended Posts

If Im not successful with weight watchers, lost and gained with Medifast, what's makes me think I can be successful with the lapband? Convince me! I want to not be hungry, not be a grazer, I want to eat, feel full, and lose weight. I am not afraid to work for something I want, but I need help to achieve it.

Simple...people are fat because they eat too much....

Surgically, a band is placed around the upper portion of your stomach, when sufficiently adjusted, will prohibit, deprive, you from eating in excess....but you won't mind because if properly adjusted, you won't experience hunger of out of control cravings anymore either.....

Weight Watchers and other diets, it is all about YOU....with the WLS, it is all about the BAND....

At least, that is my experiences....there are many people here who are not happy with their surgery....the band is adjustable and you are in control, in cooperation with your Dr., to have it work (or not work) to your liking.

honestly, no one should be convincing you that the band is right for you. you need to know that it's right for you. what works for someone else may not work for you. the band is not a "quick fix." it's merely a tool. if you look at it to be more than something to help you, the band won't help you anymore than Weight Watchers or Medifast did. it took me a year to get my head into the right space and understand that. saying that you understand and really getting it are two different things and some never do get to that point. ultimately you are still in control of what you eat like you were with diet programs. the band helps you feel satisfied longer on less intake, but you still need to make the good food choices and Portion Control, the eating slowly and thoroughly chewing your food; you still need to follow through with aftercare and pay attention to your body; you still need to do the exercise, long story short, you still need to work your butt off because sadly, there is no easy fix, but you can do it.

if you really want to lose weight and are willing to do what the doctor advises you to do even when it gets tough, then you dont need anyone to talk you into it..you either do it...or you remain where you are or get bigger..you wrote you are not afraid to work for it...sounds as if you are by requesting someone to talk you into it..

any WLS can help, but unless you help it, none will work

Agree completely with CG and Ceres. This will work as long as you understand it's not a easy fix and you will still battle head hunger and will still have to make the decision to not overeat or graze. All the band does is give you a feeling of satiety for longer periods of time and if you listen to that satiety, you can make better choices. But they are choices and if you don't listen to the band, you won't be successful. And one more really big thing...forget about feeling full. If you do this right, you never feel full. But you can be not hungry..and that's the goal.

I still feel hungry. The band helps me to manage it by helping to control my physical hunger when adjusted properly. Talk with your surgical team about your eating habits; they should be able to assist you with the decision as to which procedure would be best for you.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
