Ok I have a 14cc band and I have 7cc in it, I still don't feel restriction! Can something be wrong!?!?! Or is this normal?

When was your surgery? How many fills have you had? For many, it takes several fills to find "the spot".

Restriction has very little to do with how many cc's are in your band. Some find restriction with 1 cc and some with 14. It took me 4 months and 3 fills before I felt restriction.

TMF - I'm still unclear about restriction. I'm scheduled for a 3rd fill this week, but I only want 1/4cc. I've been doing well from the last fill about 2 months ago, but find I'm getting hungry about 2 hours after meals. The band does seem to signal me when to stop eating, but I'm not staying full. I'm afraid of overshooting, at the same time, am frustrated with the (apparent) hunger shortly after eating.

mrsinto,

I am having the same problem I'd like to hear what others have to say.

Here's how Dr. Simpson explains "restriction":

"The Lap-band is NOT about Restriction. When talking about the band, some patients talk about restriction. Let's first be clear about one thing: the purpose of the band is not restriction; the purpose of the band is to lose weight by suppressing the appetite.

When band professionals talk about restriction we are talking about something totally different than "restricting what a person eats." In fact, many band surgeons avoid talking about restriction so as to not confuse patients. The band works by dimming the appetite, and this provides a conscious control and decision made by the patient, it does not work by "making" a person do something, or keep them from eating too much.

The Lap-band works by suppressing your appetite. As a result, you are less interested in food between meals, making it easier to resist temptation. The analogy is when you are near a vending machine when you are hungry-- what do you do? Probably find yourself with some junk food that is not a part of your plan. But, when you pass a vending machine when you are full, it may not even catch your eye. Having the appetite dimmed makes you less tempted by the many food choices modern living throws at you - -this is what the band does, by suppressing appetite you become less interested in food."

I can only speak for me. It took me 6 fills to get to the green zone(July 2012) the first time a year ago. I thought maybe I was too tight so I went back 2 months later and asked for a slight unfill. They took .5 CCs out in September. I was getting hungry every 2-3 hours after the unfill. I went back in in May(2013) and had the .5 put back in. I now know how to eat like I was supposed to be eating a year ago. I stay satisfied 3-4 hour now but I really don't want another fill. I get stuck often now and a fill would only make it worse.

I doubt my journey is exactly like any other. It's going to be different for each of us. It does sound like you could use another .25 CCs. Just be aware that you will really need to take smaller bites and chew to a paste like consistency. Good luck.

As was said, the amount of cc's in the band doesn't really mean much when talking about the green zone. I have seen people almost close to the max fill find the zone and myself have never been filled over 5cc/10cc band.

Continue going for fills becuase at some point you will find the right amount.

How are you doing otherwise in regards to weight loss?

I understand what you are saying ~ 15 months out and still tweaking the band :)

I'm in the same boat with SoccerBlueJ. I was banded May 21, 2012, am about half way to goal and I've been filled and unfilled and still hunting for the green zone. I go tomorrow for an appointment and I think I need a little more put in because I'm not losing and am hungry after a fairly short time, not even 2 hours at best. I'm still struggling with head hunger and still eating stuff even when there's no physical hunger. I seem to have lost my motivation and have to get it back - any suggestions?Thank you all for keeping this forum going - I get a lot of inspiration from your posts.

I was banded in sept 2012 and have lost three stone so far another three to go. I am a 11.5 cc of a 14cc band. It's been a really slow journey for me. This is a good thing as I'm not dieting I'm living , I rarely think of food and when I eat I'm slow and methodical, I put this down to me being a 'normal' eater now instead f the addict that I was. I've stopped seeing the goal as the massive weight loss and prefer the choice f life that I feel I now have.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
